Fellow Hawkeye fans, where is the best place to stay for the NW game this year?

Thanks in advance!

Have you been over there for a game before? I like the way Ryan Field is old school and stuck right smack in the middle of neighborhoods but getting in and out is like going to a Cubs game. Only a more sober experience which can be miserable given some of the shitty games I've seen there.

The best place to stay, IMO, depends on how you're getting to the game. I'd priceline it and be willing to come in from the suburbs.

I would choose Evanston or a suburb north of the campus. Skokie has a nice selection of motels which are very accessible to campus. There are parking lots by the lake where you can tailgate. It is a bit of a walk to the stadium, however.

We would likely take the train unless we are in Evansville near NW (however those hotels looked booked so far as I can tell).

A hotel. Chicago streets are a dangerous place, you wouldn't want to stay there.

There is a big conference that week which I have to go to, so downtown hotels could be scarce. I too am trying to get to the game, but haven't bought tickets yet. Do you think it is best to buy in advance? I was just thinking of going the scalper route, but with NW being ranked will it be a tougher get?

If you stay downtown and want something nice, I highly recommend the Langham in River North. Just spent 4 nights there and it was fantastic!

We stayed in a suburb west of Evanston. If I ever do it again, I'll plan to stay Saturday night and also plan to hang in town until the traffic fades. It took us several hours to get out into decently moving traffic after the 2010 game. Add in my disgust at how the game went and you can imagine my mood....

Omni at Huron and Michigan is the Chicago hotel of choice for the Doodles. Excellent property, with just the right amount of luxury and full-service, but not haughty or overbearing. Very kid friendly too....if that's important at all. And just about an unbeatable Mag Mile location.
