Tailgate Questions

What lots have free shuttle service to the game?

How early should someone start getting on a shuttle to get to the game?

How quickly do the lots start filling up?

Could a group fill up a Styrofoam cooler hop on the express train and then just wander around the lots?

How's the shuttle service and/or express train post game?

Thanks in Advance.

This is the way to do it if it's just a day trip for a small group unless you're bringing your own tailgate. Designate a driver. Don't tailgate in the stadium lot. Walk up Melrose and follow the crowds headed away from the stadium early, then follow the crowds headed toward the stadium in the hour before kickoff.

Uber is your friend in Iowa city

You don't want to get to tailgating lots much after 8.

I recommend the nomadic styrofoam strategy it is a blast.

After the game is tricky, wait an hour if possible and you can go anywhere.

We're staying within walking distance of the express train depot. Are we alright wandering on with a Styrofoam cooler and then wandering up Melrose with the cooler (possibly open beers) without getting any open containers?

Big fan of Uber, glad you guys have that service.

Typically they dont allow you to walk up melrose anymore with open containers but I think it's rare for them to issue citations, usually they just tell you to dump it out.

If they do stop you just pull a:

Stick with canned beer in coozies (sp?). If you don't litter and aren't an ass, you'll have no problems around the stadium and in that neighborhood..

I'd rather they give me the citation and let me finish my beer. :D

Two options for this.

Park at Hancher and catch a free ride to the stadium area with your stuff.

Park downtown..super cheap....walk to the stadium and pick up booze on the way. Walk back and party after the game.

They don't seem to be enforcing the open container rule like they were. Saw a group of 4 with open containers walk by 2 cops right in front of Kinnick on Melrose and the cops didn't even flinch. This was for the ISU game. Figured if they were going to crack down that would be the game they would do it.

As others have said, load up your cooler and jump on the train. Sure, you're probably not "supposed" to drink on the train but you're also not "supposed" to drink in Kinnick either.

So long as you have a coozie and aren't acting like a degenerate you won't have an issue walking around Kinnick with a beer before the game.

Styrofoam will get destroyed in the first 40 minutes, better to bring a regular cooler you aren't too attached to and stash it by a tree or infront of a car. Odds are it will still be there. Unless it has NDSU stickers on it, then it will still be there but someone will have shat in it.

Since you're being a wanderer I'd park downtown. Not that expensive. It's only a 10-15 minute walk to Kinnick. You can even take the Cambus that drops you off in back of the stadium. Not sure if the Cambus would allow the cooler. Never tried. Added bonus when you walk back you will be around a ton of bars postgame.

You can take whatever you want on the cambus. Remember it's all student drivers and they couldn't care less.
