personally I've never been a fan, although we have friends that adore the place.

last time I took the family there, early 2022, it was disgusting dirty (tables and seats sticky and the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years). The service was awful too.

Interesting what passes for a "steakhouse" in the midwest....that looks like a VFW hall.

This is not representative of the vast majority of steakhouses in the Midwest or even the QC.

This place was very uniquely "West Davenport" - which @Whiskeydeltadeltatango can confirm - is a very unique societal subset.

Never had the pleasure of visiting Tappa's but if a pretty building is what you are looking for in your dining experience you are going to want to keep driving up the hill.

Here are a couple of the other steakhouses in the Quads:

Like I said, it's a uniquely West Davenport take on a "steakhouse"

What is the name of the hole in the wall breakfast place down there that is to die for? I think it's a little north of the hy-vee on Rockingham. Can't think of the name but if you are up to date on your tetanus shot the food is amazing.

Last summer I went back and visited my.pops and we went down there. Got to watch a drug deal in the apartments across the street while we waited. Classic west end entertainment.

I have lived in the QC for most of my life and I have never been there.
you didn't miss much, it was a hole in the wall mom & dad place with average food.

Maybe they knew they were closing years ago and just let the place waste away more than they otherwise would have.

Any restaurant that bakes a potato wrapped in aluminum foil is immediately off my list.
Is it super classy? Absolutely not. But sometimes a joint like that just hits the damn spot. My dad and I spend a few weekends every year fishing up at Lake Okoboji. After a day on the water, sometimes a really cold day on the water, a steak, aluminum foil wrapped baked potato, and a beer just work perfectly.

The place we always went to was called Remingtons. I think it was there for roughly 30 years before closing in 2019. I miss that place.

Down on Rockingham? I'm not familiar with that one. I DO love Tommy's Cafe on W. Third. It very much has a "Mel's Diner" vibe, and feels like a place from the 70s or early 80s.

They make fantastic homemade donuts and cinnamon rolls too:

My first thought. I zoomed in expecting to see an old christmas tree in the corner, limited-edition plates with trains and frontier settings hanging on the wall, and a dot matrix printed banner saying "This aint Burger King, you can't have it your way!!!"

There are plenty of fancy, upscale steakhouse options here in the Quads. This place was more of a townie fave, and one reason is it's quite inexpensive for solid (not spectacular) food.

Midwesterners in general, and Quad Citians in particular, are inclined to "love" a restaurant more if they get large portions for less money over straight up quality. Personally drives me nuts, as I'm willing to pay a premium for high quality and it can be hard to discern high quality places around here because a lot of folks hand out 4 and 5 star Yelp/TripAdvisor reviews for anywhere that heaps a ton of mediocre food on your plate for $10-$15

What are the fancy steakhouse photos that you posted? @torbee

Might be good to take my squeeze for valentines day dinner.
