Trump demonstrated repeatedly in his first term that tariffs are the only tool he thinks of economically; with an imperfect understanding at best of how to use them.

He views everything as transactional, there must be a winner or loser in everything.

How about instead of people acting like a bunch of Chicken Littles, we give this time to see what happens? I mean, everybody acts like the sky is falling and how inflation is going to go up and such. Let's give it a month and see what happens? I am not saying it is good or bad. I am saying I will give it some time to decide whether it was a good or bad decision or if it is a possible strategy that could encourage countries to come together and have some hard disuccsions. Biden had an opportunity to lower or eliminate the tariffs Trump put on China in his first term, but didn't. I would encourage people to just take some time to see what happens instead of jumping off a bridge. I would have rather he eliminated the financial assistance we provide Mexico with every year and in turn direct that money to our own border, but... That being the case, I am not excited to see what the Stock Market does tomorrow.

What possible good will come from adding a 25% tax on all lumber coming from Canada? A 10% tax on all oil electricity and natural gas? This does one thing, it adds to the cost of purchasing products that have no competition. Where else is the North East going to get power from? Why are you starting trade wars with your allies?

Canada has a population base that is equal to Texas and Oklahoma combined. They match tariffs on China to keep a North American balance. Are we to expect that a Country with 9 times fewer people will match the US 1:1 on consumer products?

Retaliation is, of course less of an issue since trade in this case is biased towards imports and we are in trade deficit. I don't understand the Orange Turd's fixation with tariffs. He really believes tariffs are direct penalties to exporting countries.

If his plan is to wean American industry from offshore, he would do it with strategic business planning, not shotgun politics.

Car parts are jumping 25% every time they cross the border. US cars will now be unaffordable.

But now with the tariff situation and Trump threatening to pull back the tax credit, it’s not a good business to be in right now. Might get back in at some point, but right now it’s a shitshow.

Call me crazy, but like I said, I will wait and see what impact it has on things a month from now. I don’t expect the stock market to react favorably to it. I do find it odd how up in arms Canada is over things when they have much higher tariffs on us for various products already in place. I guess one can also view it as a means of trying to level the playing field. If it turns out bad, I won’t defend it, but I also don’t grasp how people either can’t see that the US is completely taken advantage of or don’t seem to care.

This goofy ass spokespeople for dumpster say it is about stopping Fentanyl and this aint going to do it. You need way more customs and border people and investigators etc to stop drugs like that. To ship a package into the US or drive one in you need declarations of goods, harmonized codes, proper papers and valuations. Hire people and OPEN EVERY PACKAGE FOR A MONTH COMING INTO THE COUNTRY and see what happens

Start opening packages as they come into the US. Search every car, find the US buyers of this stuff and put them away. catch the smugglers and put them away.

How is a tariff on some product coming into the country going to stop illegal drugs.
