When the game started out and we were missing shots I was like:

Then we kept missing but stayed in the game and I was like:

Then with every missed 3 I was like:

Then as the second half unfolded I was like:

My father once told me, “Joel, why be an Iowa fan? At best they will only break your heart!”

My dad was a very smart man.
I've always wondered what it would be like to be like a Duke fan, or Alabama in football. You think they get desensitized to winning championships? The Cubs winning the World Series was one of the high points of my life, but a Yankees fan seems like they'd get bored after a while. I suppose I can look at Iowa Wrestling, I still get pumped about that, and they've won like 387 NCAAs in my 47 years.

I liked the part in the second half where the strategy seemed to be just keep attempting 3’s because eventually one will go in.

In the 90s as a FSU fan we expected to win every game. Expected. With the exception of UF and UM which were devastating if we lost. I mean literal depression for weeks. If a team other than one of those two beat us it was national news and people immediately started talking about what was wrong with the program.
It was an awesome and awful time to be a fan at the same time.

what is actually making this not feel so bad is the Putin thread, and all that Ukraine is suffering. Very trivial first-world problems. But, they are my first-world problems...
Exactly. It sux that the Hawks lost. But at least we aren’t worried that our hospital is going to be blown up by some Russian POS. And the Hawkeye women better win tomorrow or I’ll effin lose it.

This is true.

Now, as to Iowa ... dammitt, I have adopted our new home's teams. I picked Iowa to the Elite Eight. 🤢 Well, at least I didn't bet on the Noles to win it all. Last time I was going to do that, COVID cancelled it all.

Then why didn't you tell me so I would not have:
  1. Taken a half day
  2. Picked Iowa to WIN the whole f'ing thing in my work pool
  3. Proudly changed the avatar to the tiger hawk in my work pool for everyone to see.
  4. Wore new shoes that arrived today. I wouldn't have dared tried that on a football day
  5. Lit an expensive candle at halftime because...yes
  6. Ignored wife's phone calls. That made her happy

I went maximum grief when I saw Keegan roll both ankles early in the 1st half. I haven't played basketball in almost 60 years but my ankles hurt watching. At first I thought it might be OK but obviously not. The halftime sitdown destroyed him and he just wasn't Keegan anymore.

It was like watching a different team. Lazy passes, no movement on o, weak drives.

The Iowa fan hopes meme is as true as it gets. Hey Iowa, congrats on your win over Penn State and #2 ranking! Now go get beat by Purdue the following week as a double digit favorite. Hey Iowa, congrats on your Big Ten championship and national love! Now go get upset as an 11 point favorite in the Dance. We don't even get a week to be happy! Repeat, recycle. And now I'm depressed again...

The Yankees have 1 title in the last 21 seasons and no pennants in the last decade. They might be bored but it isn't from the winning
