Bored the last two days and stumbled upon this article -- I knew some of these; but had no idea Francis Ford Coppola directed the movie "Jack".

How dare they disparage the movie Jack!

Following shouldnt be on this list. It's Nolan's first feature length film and it's a very good movie. You see a lot of stuff in this movie carry over to his later films too. Definitely better than Tenet

“ Bring Out the Dead” by Scorsese is the blueprint for bad movies by great directors. Terrible.

Haha, i was thinking that would make it, especially given Nick Cage starred; but New York New York (never seen it) made the list for Scorsese

Tim Burton has had a couple stinkers.
Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland to name a couple. I normally love his movies but those two were awful .

No clip, just a list of movies; but he did make the cut for Exodus: Gods and Kings. I don't even recall that movie from 2014 and I believe I have seen just about every dumb movie put out the last 30 years.

They decided Moses needed a turn as an action hero for some reason. Utterly forgettable movie.
Hod did Hook make that list over this turd? 1941 is awful.
Hook is a surprise. It’s not superb but it has its charms.

That’s too good a cast for the movie to be terrible.

Tim Burton is the best example of a hit or miss director I know of.

I actually kinda like Alice in wonderland; the story actually suits his general weirdness. The sequel meanwhile was awful.

Spike Lee's Miracle at St. Anna. It's the only movie I've ever walked out of the theater. I normally love most of Lee's films, but that film was a piece of garbage.

He is an enigma. Big fish, Nightmare before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Batman, Batman returns , Frankenweenie, Beetlejuice, Charlie and the chocolate factory, and of course my favorite Edward Scissorhands are awesome flicks.

Are those all ones you liked or just a mix as examples?

I can’t speak to Charlie and Chocolate Factory - the gene wilder version has too much sentimental attachment for me and Wonka is just not a role I can ever wrap my head around for Depp.

Those are the ones I personally enjoy and I do think the ones that are generally regarded as his better films. I do like how he uses many of the same actors in his movies

Considering most those films are universally loved, I’m guessing he likes them lol.

Had to look it up, for some reason I’d thought it was one that did well commercially but panned at the same time.
Not sure many would list Sleepy Hollow in there but I forgot to add that one

Love Sleepy Hollow. Ricci before she got rid of her boobs(criminal in my opinion) and Walken as the horseman? Great film.
I liked sleep hollow as well, tho it hasn’t aged great imo.

I mentioned this one in another thread earlier today.

Lina Wertmuller, the first woman to ever be nominated for an Academy Award directed "Seven Beauties." ... which includes this scene from an Italian prison during WWll. It involves suicide by prison guards or by diving into a latrine, however you wish to frame it.

This clip has stayed in my head for forty years, so think before you watch.

I tried to start the dark tower series a couple years back, didn’t enjoy it at all.
You have to get past the first book which is different than the rest. The first book is a little abstract and almost dreamlike. Then it gets to the heart of the matter in book 2. Books 2 through 4 are very good. Books 5 and 6 are good but don’t seem to move the plot a lot. Book 7 is very good.

The series definitely isn’t for everyone but Roland is up there with my favorite characters I’ve ever read (along with Gus from Lonesome Dove).

Never seen it. What was so bad about it?
I thought the movie was generally just ok. Good in some parts, not good in many others. It was also a completely fabricated story, which to me in general is fine. But some people don’t like that for WW2 movies. There are many stories about black soldiers that could have been told, but instead Lee decided to make this.

There was no way that anyone could transition Gus to film or TV ... from tricking Lorena into giving him a free "Poke" until the end of the cattle drive, he was that special!

But, they did it! (I still think of Duvall as Gus, when I see him in a film.)

I have yet to watch the mini series. I’m always worried it won’t live up to the book. But I just got my dad to read the book so we may watch it together. Everyone has told me the mini series is really good.

Tim Burton commentary up and down this thread ... and not one mention of "Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street." The selection of Mr. Burton to direct was inspired. He took the Broadway musical to another level.
