Terry Brands Film

That would be an interesting documentary. ISU gives Bobby Douglas his walking papers to make Cael head coach, only to have Cael leave soon afterwards, taking a few star recruits and wrestlers with him, and leaving his alma mater, a contender for the ncaa team title, floundering. Sort of a Greek tragedy.

Hoosiers meets Wall Street.

Kill Kill Kill Destroy Dominate. I'm gonna chop down every tree in my yard after I see this.

As a Landscaper I strongly advise against this act of terror you threaten on these innocent living beings.

However if you would reconsider and instead bash rocks against your forehead till all the blood drains from your body....I will not report you to the authorities.

I promise.

I imagine a lot of sticks and twigs lying around when I'm done. You looking for work?

Work??? OH MY NO! I won't go back to work till after NCAA's.

Just got down to Siesta Key, FL. today. The tan started today, watching Midlands from the pool area tomorrow and then starting Bikini Patrol at the beach after Midlands is over. Should be a good several months down here.

Work? Ha Ha.

Hey Kwood, keep the all that gloating to yourself while the rest of us fight flooding and snow! You suck!!!
That is unless you have pics of bikinis!

PICS of bikinis? You know what Mrs. Kwood would do to me if I took Pics. Dead Man Walking.

Kwood - Tell the wife it's for science, morale & welfare, R&R, or the poor schmucks who are battling the elements. However you slice it, you're doing your part for the wrestling community. It's a sacrifice but someone has to make it.

It is 1 hour and 23 minutes long. I just got done watching it. I must say being a IOWA fan is just as off limits to me being from NWPA as being a PSU fan would be for some of you Iowa inhabitants. But, I can say without a doubt I am a fan of the Brands passion for competition, the sport of wrestling, and their wrestlers. It is very clear to see the loyalty that the Brands have for those who they hold close to them. From here on out when I see either Brands all fired up acting like a fool, I will pause before I think to myself "Man, what a A**HAT" instead saying "Man that guy is intense, driven and passionate about this sport."

Nice start. Let's finish it:

Like the Phoenix (since you like Greek mythology ;)), Cael raises PSU wrestling from the ashes to the "Pinnacle" of college wrestling by winning NCAA Championships in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 before taking a year off to smell the roses. Cael is now on track for a Championship in 2016 ...according to the Oracle of Greece!

Like jammenz said " He took Long from ISU instead of letting him go to rehab" .to win by one point his first big ten title.
Can't believe I'm replying to this and also using what jammenz said guess I'm getting easy at my old age.

Just finished watching Terry. What an outstanding film. I could probably list 100 awesome quotes from it here. Tom and Terry are truly legends. The immense amount of respect I had for them before the film somehow managed to double afterward, especially for Terry. They received some of the highest praise from some of the other great legends of the sport. I can't even put into words how much respect I have for the Brands.

Just watched it also. Great production and it showed the passion and love both Tom and Terry have for the sport. Also all the respect from other big names in the sport. I found it very interesting the part that Kendal Cross had in it and how much respect he had for the Brands..I like laxhawk have more rerspect for the Brands also shows what they give and the person they are.

Simply one of the great documentaries that I've seen. Past, Present and Future wrestlers of the Hawkeye program should be damn proud of Terry Brands. Thank you Flo for creating this doc!

Just finished it and definitely the best wrestling film I've ever seen.

EDIT: However, I don't think we ever got to watch a film on AC Slater...get on it Flo

I don't think it will hurt recruiting either.

No kidding...Terry (and Tom) lives and dies with those kids. Look at his interaction with Dan Dennis, who himself came off an almost four year hiatus and now has a legit shot at the team.

Hey DT...come train with the Brands at the HWC and lets go beat Dake ;)

Haha that would be awesome.

I was hoping to see Cejudo in there. Terry was extremely influential with him.

Well if you think about it:

Cael=Dake
Terry=DT

Yes, Terry won World titles (neither Dake or DT have made a team) but he knows what it's like to lose and have to remake himself mentally and physically. Gable did too. Sure, Cael lost a few freestyle matches but then won an Olympic gold on his first try and won four NCAA titles while going undefeated. Sounds a lot like Dake...except for the gold and a few losses. The only guy to ever have Dake's number is JB...let's face it, he has his name tattooed on a lot of arses both here and abroad.

Stylistically, Taylor is much like Cael but he needs to learn how to wrestle differently if he's ever going to beat Dake... He was close to this style in a match or two with JB...more physical, more cardio...just didn't have the tank to finish JB off. To me, those were the best matches I have ever seen him wrestle in freestyle. He had JB on the ropes.

Even today's matches showed he can get outhorsed and needs to improve on his hand fighting. Brooks and Dudley got in on his legs but DT is so dang good at scrambling. Think he scored off of two Brooks shots. He would have a tough time beating Dean, though...even in folk.

For the PSU fans that think I am putting down DT or Cael... I'm not. DT has been my favorite non-Iowa wrestler and I'd like to him get over this mental hurdle. Cael is a great recruiter and folkstyle coach...he gets athletic guys and harnesses them into very good, technical wrestlers. Just think a different approach is needed for freestyle. Might not be as fun for David, but judging by the look on his face even after winning today, he's not having much fun anyways.

Just saw the movie. Very well done. Interviews with Alger, Duroe and Cross were especially good. Liked the emphasis at the end on Terry's coaching legacy. Thanks Flo.

How are more people not commenting on this? Amazing. Absolutely loved this. I always hated Kendall across because he beat "my guy." Man does he come across as a good dude. Count me a Kendall fan. Also found it interesting that Terry's talking to John Smith. I think the intensity during matches always gets blown out of proportion. I think they love the sport and love the best competition they can find, even as coaches. I'm guessing they have a lot of respect for John, Cael, etc., but of course would never back down from any of them. Just how they are wired. Flow did an amazing job. We have two of the best by far.

I once heard Kendall say, after he won the 96 gold medal, that his toughest opponent wasn't at the Olympics. He said the best wrestler he faced was Terry.

I loved the scene in the movie when Tommy described how he was holding onto Terry after Terry lost the third match to Cross and kept saying, "I ain't gonna let you go! I ain't gonna let you go!" It was almost biblical.

I spent the $20 and watched it right away, I am beyond impressed. The only thing they could've done better is to make it longer. I didn't want to stop watching, and can't wait to see one on another Hawkeye.
