Kind of sounds to me like the coaches want to see him throw in person this spring before taking his commitment. Fields told me he thinks it's just a formality, but that's the next step in his recruiting is Greg Davis visiting his school on May 12. Also kind of funny that he mentioned Tyler Barnes by name since that hire hasn't been announced yet.

After picking up a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes in early February, Texas quarterback Kamron Fields had a chance to make his first visit to Iowa City this weekend. For the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Fields, it was an opportunity to learn more about the program, talk with the coaches, and see if he would be a good fit for Iowa's offense. We caught up with him afterwards to get a complete update.

Q: Can you kind of take us through your day at Iowa on Saturday?

FIELDS: I watched the spring game, met some of the recruits, and went to the coaches' offices and talked with Coach Kennedy and Coach Davis. Then I went on a tour with Tyler Barnes and Coach Kennedy and at the end I sat down with Coach Ferentz and talked about school and just being a good person. Coach Kennedy and Coach Davis basically broke down my recruiting process and told me how I would fit into the offense.

Q: How do you think you would fit in?

FIELDS: I think I'd fit in nicely. Coach Davis will put me in the best position to use my abilities.

Q: Did they go through specifics on how they would utilize your skill set there?

FIELDS: As a dual threat QB, Coach Davis said he will use me as such, meaning that I will have the option to pass or run. He won't change the playbook to fit me, but he'll implement my abilities into the plays.

Q: Overall, what was the highlight of the visit for you?

FIELDS: Just being in Iowa City and seeing the fans and all the love I received. The coaches and staff are all great people and the facility was unreal.

Q: With Iowa as your favorite, did you have thoughts about committing while you were there?

FIELDS: Yeah, committing crossed my mind a couple of times.

Q: What's next for you and Iowa?

FIELDS: Coach Davis will come down to watch me in the spring and we'll go from there.

Q: When do you think you might decide?

FIELDS: Only time will tell at this point. After Coach Davis comes down (on May 12) I'll know more.

Q: Iowa recently offered your top receiver, Shamond Greenwood. Have you two talked about possibly playing together in college?

FIELDS: Yes, it would be nice.

Currently, Fields holds scholarship offers from Iowa, SMU, San Diego State, and Nevada.

As a junior at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas, Fields completed 147/239 pass attempts for 2,236 yards and 19 touchdowns. On the ground, he finished with 93 carries for 543 yards and four touchdowns.
