Thank you Fran

Cheers Yes GIF by MASTERPIECE | PBS
I have no ill will towards Fran at all and wish him all the best assuming he is in fact done here. He picked up this program following the Lickliter mess, and made it competitive again. Just couldn't really get much done in the postseason, unfortunately.

It's just run it's course and it's time for fresh blood.

He got ejected on purpose IMO. Thank you for 15 solid years. He knows it's over and I am now convinced it is. His players love him and it's apparent with how hard they've battled for him with all the adversity this season. It's time though for both parties.
NO WAY he got ejected on purpose. He can do WAY BETTER than that to get double-t'ed. We all know that. The first T was complete BS, which THEN ACTUALLY ANGERED him, and then basically got one cuss word in before the 2nd T. Did NOT get his monies worth. Do better next time Franimal.

Davis had a Sweet 16 and an Elite 8 at BC as well. Yeah he was set up for success when he came to Iowa, but Davis absolutely had more success in the NCAA Tournament than Fra.

All while his players were point shaving. That’s fairly impressive.

Not an original thought here as others have posted it but Fran really lost the fan base when the boys went through the program. He had done just enough to get by up to that point. What does he really leave behind as a legacy other than his reputation as a players coach?

Luka Garza

Love you man but he needs to go. Davis achieved success in the ncaa, Fran not so much.
Doesn’t he hold the record for the most second round losses of any coach in NCAA history? I heard that on the radio the other day and I also feel like Dr. Tom was a tad overrated. I believe he was looked at in a much brighter light than Fran just because of his demeanor and friendliness, but neither of those attributes wins basketball games.

Maybe........... Take a look at the second round opponent's IOWA usually ran in to. Different era with most everyone playing into their senior years because bolting to the NBA really wasn't the norm after the freshman, sophomore, junior years. Imagine the talent levels at N. Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, UNLV, UCLA, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Oklahoma, and the rest of the perennials back in the day that had the studs around for 4 years. Way different then playing the 18-19 year olds for one year before they jump to the NBA after their freshman year now. Back in the day they needed to keep the GPA up, no matter how those schools actually fudged those numbers, to keep them on the court.

You may not like T. Davis, but from what I know he had no knowledge of the point shaving at BC. And with the timing of him coming to IOWA when he did to take the young group that George had assembled, and walked away from, he benefited from them being here, but they benefited more from his style of coaching.

I look at the years that George had at USC and wonder, if he was such a great recruiter............... why didn't he have that success at USC with ALL THAT TALENT IN HIS BACK YARD. Why didn't he recruit NCAA Championship caliber teams in the years compiling a 115-118 record. Pretty simple answer.

I quit watching iowa basketball 5 years ago. I haven't watched a minute of a game in 2 years. There is nothing there for me.

I would have loved to see Fran just bitch slap Larry scrirato as he walked off.

That would have been statue worthy.
Scirato has had a hard on for Fran for years. Normally I try to see what his facial expressions are when he turns away from Fran because he usually has a smirk on his face knowing he’s riled him up again. Never saw a close enough shot of him last night after Frans kick to the curb.

He is a good man who turned around a shithole program and made it respectable. Lots of great players and winning seasons. It was time for him to go but I’ll always appreciate what he did for the program and how he coached and mentored his players.

After what Lickliter did to Iowa, I will forever be grateful to get back to the NCAA tourney. God those years were bleak. However, hopeful the next decision is the right one to bring Iowa back.

It is a strange thought process that some people give Fran credit for turning Garza and Murrays into the players they were and ignoring Frank Garza and Kenyon Murray contribution. You would think if Fran the family man would be able to develop Garza and the Murray's he should have been able to teach PMAC to play defense or rebound or CMAC how to to shoot.

The Fran Era was okay. High basement, low ceiling. Some good moments. Time to move on. He seems to be a good family man, decent person. Classy move is to agree to reduced buyout and leave on good terms with fans.
This in a nutshell.....

Basically the same for me as well. His ceiling was always the round of 32 no matter how great of a regular season. IMO, if little brother can get to a half dozen or so Sweet Sixteens this century, why can’t we at least get to a few?

He knows he's leaving one way or another and wanted to get his say in on what a piece of crap the officiating has been all year.
That's just my take.
In the Big Ten Tournament, the officiating was a joke. Iowa players were hacked on one end with no calls, while the slightest contact on the other end resulted in a foul.

The foul count in the Ohio State game was especially telling. OSU played an extremely physical style—fouling on nearly every possession—yet somehow committed fewer fouls overall. If for no other reason, Fran needed to go, as Iowa consistently wasn’t getting a fair whistle.

"Fighting for his players"... Code for being being unable to control his emotions and getting technicals in points of games that usually lead to teams pulling away. I thought he'd been a lot better in recent years so there's that. But most of Frans outbursts over the years did more to cost us games than anything else.
Good response to Sherman's x **** off asshole
