Iowa wishes they had a player like him, 5th year senior that knows how to win and is a relentless rebounder. Something Fran can't seem to teach...
Agree with your first sentence. Your second sentence is stupid. Not sure why you’d bring Fran into this but Garza is basically that player except he’s a junior.

How can every team have multiple guys who can knock shots down and Iowa's best shooter is their center? What the hell is up with the guards on this team? Did Fran try to recruit the most guards who can't shoot?
Now hold on. He may have gotten away with a few, but what is this over the back you speak of? Do you know that’s not an actual foul? The term does not exist in a rule book. You can push but there is not penalty for being taller, jumping higher etc.
Fact is they had as many offensive rebounds as we had defensive. That’s terrible.m an an extremely rare stat line. I didn’t like the calls but we did this to ourselves tonight.
If that dude played like that for Iowa he would foul out faster than you can say Glen Worley.

That's not really accurate, CJ is the best shooter in the conference. We just can't get him open looks.
You are suggesting Fran taught Garza to rebound? Garza improved himself in 1 year to double his scoring and rebound numbers--most of that time was off season, no Fran allowed to coach him.
Iowa needs more guys than only Garza that are hungry for the basketball and strong enough/quick enough to go get it. Boudreax is not much of an athlete, but he wanted the B-ball more than the Iowa guys.
I'm suggesting Fran didn't teach him to rebound.
Garza tracks the ball well but that's not the best way to rebound defensively. Especially when you're less athletic than most opponents.
Go back and watch the game again. First half lots of box outs resulted in Iowa guys shoved under the backboard. I obsess over box outs, and Iowa isn’t great at it, but they’re better this year. Fran has to make sure the shoves and over the backs are called. And, of course, find a way to prepare for teams like Purdue, Wisconsin, MSU.

I guess when Iowa goes undefeated we can then say maybe the coach had some small part in it. Maybe. But if we go 30-1 the coach was OK but totally blew it on that one loss. I’m sure all fan bases are similar but it gets old.
Sort of a C- effort. But most teams average a C effort these days. What I’m saying is that possessions with solid box outs resulted in guys shoved under the boards.

I play in an Alumni tournament in my hometown, this will be year 21 for our team to play since graduation. He looks like a player in our tournament and whooped Iowa's ass. Let that sink in.
You don’t teach it. That comes from within the player. With the exception of a player or two, dismal performance by the team.
Glad you don’t dispute it. Doesn’t take a lot of tracking. Just a little reading. Pretty simple actually. You’re usually pretty quiet after wins, which makes them all the better. After a loss though, the doosh crew shows up and I’m confident that you’re the president of their club.

when things happen over and over the coach should get a lot of the blame. Doubling on defense when not needed is coaching. Rebounding is coaching. Poor defense is coaching.
Technically, but there were several cases where there big post player went through Garza and not over him and got the board, should have been an obvious call, but nothing. Call it what you want, over the back whatever, but the player obviously displaced Luka, and gained the advantage and by rule thats supposed to be a foul. Not in the BIG I guess......
I thought Fran offered but he chose the Ivy league school which pissed off a bunch of fans at the time......

Seemed that most of our perimeter shots were contested but the wide open ones were tentative/aimed rather than just a natural shot. When Iowa early shots don't fall we struggle.

Any one who guards him he seems to out physical out rebound and out hustle... I’m sad to say this but he’s the kind of player if my team was losing bad to at home I probably would have done something to..
