What sticks out to me is that there was never really a solid downfield pass. Beathard did nearly all of it in his own, with a couple sideline passes. The lack of WRs who are threats to go downfield is worrisome as the season progresses...but you have to admire CJ getting them just far enough so Koehn could bomb it.

Looking ahead, without big-play capabilities (for the most part), avoiding mistakes and TOs is imperative. We'll all be looking for CJ to make big plays himself, but at the same time, the onus is on him to play smart. The kid has a lot on his shoulders! What I like is that he seems to have the mental strength to bounce back after mistakes...which he'll need when carrying a heavy load...

It was like we forgot the middle of the field existed. Not surprising after our defense forgot it was there on Pitt's last drive. We had 2 time outs. There was no reason to abandon 1/3 of the field.
