A bit over the top on the ragging on Bohannon. He's always had these athletic limitations. IU identified Iowa's perimeter shooters as the key threat and let Davis front Garza. Phinisee, like all guards that athletic, can lock down Bohannon when a team is able to mostly prevent post feeds to Garza using just one guy who was hustling like a madman that game.

Iowa has weaknesses if matched up against certain teams thick with athleticism and the motivation, discipline, and 40-minute effort to stifle Iowa somewhat. Combined with the piss poor defense the final ten minutes (it was actually pretty good defense the first 30 minutes) and Iowa gets beat by double digits.

Now we'll get to see what Iowa's made of and if they can rise to the challenge because 9 out of the next 10 games are tough as nails. Penn State at home is the only sure win the rest of the way. Iowa has IU on the road, MSU on the road, ILL home and road, UW home and road, Mich on the road, OSU at home, and Rutgers at home. That's a brutal stretch of games that will probably tell us whether Iowa has a realistic shot to make a FF run.

Not having a healthy Frederick makes a big big difference as we saw in the 2nd half and times last year. With him we have 4 shooters in there and it also makes Connor more effective to play his game. Guy sags to help and Bohannon gets a second longer look. That’s all it takes. It’s not like every team doesn’t already have a scouting report on us. Still have to stop us. We will be fine moving forward, will probably lose a few more. Still think we finish 2nd in the league which would be a huge accomplishment. Let’s hope Fran can figure his lineup a little better if Frederick can’t get healthy.

Yeah, even if CJ isn't shooting much, his presence on the court helps take pressure off of every one else. I wanted to see how Ulis would do out there since neither JBo or Joe T were playing well.

Bohannon is a three point shooter only.

He brings great value when he's hitting, but is an incredible detriment when he's not.

My question all season is "Why didn't Fran get a PG 5 year senior to help run the team? JBO is a shooter only so a 2 guard. JT is just too erratic and out of control. We needed a veteran true PG to run one of the best front courts in the country and nothing was done. Almost sad to leave the current backcourt to run the PG position.

I think the problem with Bohannon is Fran gives him too long of a leash and relies on him more than he needs to. If JBo has a great game, Iowa wins. If JBo has a so-so game Iowa probably still wins. But on nights like tonight... ugh.

Fran needs to give guys like JoeT, Ulis, and Perkins more opportunities to influence a game if JBo is just okay. Give them some playing time to gain confidence because even if they're not as great of shooters, they can definitely impact the other aspects of the game more than JBo.

Fran seems to rely on JBo as some sort of security blanket but he doesn't need to. He doesn't need to make 5 threes a game for Iowa to win.

Agreed. I read a crazy stat that when Jbo hits at least 2 threes we are 9-0 this year.
