Unless the Trump administration is a disaster, I assume JD Vance will head the R's 2028 ticket. But who else might challenge? Rubio? RFK? Tulsi? Thune? MTG? Don, jr?

It's much less clear from the Dem side. I'll be watching AOC but I don't see any clear leaders. Pete? Newsom? Whitmer? Shapiro?

I would guess Vance and Shapiro. No idea on VP ticket.

Vance/Gabbard would be my hope.

I think the dems will work witmer/Shapiro.

Newsome is the obvious bridesmade but I don't know if we see a "California democrat"
California has too much stank, don't think it would work..

Polis runs Colorado well and isn't a woke type -- moreso focused on efficient gov that solves problems. Libertarian streak as well. Is a gay jew, but eh, think we're past that.

In an effort to send an olive branch, I'd be interested in Chis's opinion as of 12/24. Before the party says who they like, who does "chis" like from the democrats?

Why Polis over Shapiro? Just curious and I can probably learn a great deal by hearing your viewpoint.

It will be a Republican. Votes for democrats won't matter. Trump will get a third term or whomever he deems to take over.

OMG…AOC would get fewer votes than Kamala did. 😉 Shapiro is the only one you listed that would have a chance.

not sure why you'd just assume JD Vance is going to be in trump's good graces 4 years from now

look at mike pence...

it's funny, I was actually going to put Fetterman on a 'watch list', though I have a hard time imagining people would be able to get past the franken-stroke thing after the biden experience.

I think the guy's actually saying a lot of right things right now in terms of how the G should work, regardless of the fact that I disagree with a lot of his policy positions. Those things may resonate with people come 2028. on top of that, he has good writers -- the Desantis shoe lifts comment was pretty damn funny.

I like how he has adjusted as time has gone on but if you need to take a mental health quarter to deal with anxiety at this level you don't get the keys to the castle. Imo

I'm not an expert on Shapiro, have seen more of Polis.

But with Polis I think he sort of has the it factor. Really affable, easy going, not phony, doesn't take himself too seriously.

Can joke about being gay. He's the sort of gay guy that could get the votes.

Beyond that... he comes at social stuff from a libertarian perspective -- gov stay out of my hair. Doesn't carry the "woke baggage" a bunch of dems do.

Can point to a very successful stint in Colorado as well as a successful stint a business entrepreneur before that.

Would Trump even be the decider? Did JD put his balls in Donald’s lockbox or something?

i honestly don't know how to even respond to the suggestion that trump's opinion of something or someone isn't the MAJOR if not sole deciding factor in whether republicans will support that thing or person

mike pence is persona non grata for (GASP) following the constitution

Consistent with the premise of the original question, JD will be the presumptive nominee. it's sort of the way the R party works. hand off to the next in line. that will come with baggage of the same nature as afflicted harris.

what?

if anything, that's the way the democrat party works. the gop is based almost exclusively on trump and his opinions.

there is no "next in line" until trump gives his blessing. and as we've seen with any number of people, anything short of 100% loyalty to trump means you aren't getting that blessing
