Definitely the Stones, IMO, They are closer to first than they are to third.By any measure they have to be #1.
And I have no idea who would be #2. The Stones? Grateful Dead?
She needs a new copy of Revolver. It skips 30 seconds into Elanor Rigby.Do all of you listen to my mom's beatles records when you are over at her house???????
I like their stuff, but IMHO......most over-rated band in history.
Led Zeppelin has that title.
If you're going by studio work and songwriting, it's The Beatles.By any measure they have to be #1.

They also wrote what ought to be our new national anthem:
I mean, can you not just picture a stadium full of respectful patriots hat to heart singing along to the chorus? I sure can.
By any measure they have to be #1.

The entirety of 65-69 was like pure creative bukkake. The White Album was like an ejaculation of creativity.
If you're going by studio work and songwriting, it's The Beatles.
If you're going by greatest live band, it's The Dead.
If you're going by a combination of both, then it's The Stones.
You're probably right, I'm just partial to The Dead.

Stones have it on longevity and showmanship. I’ve been to a couple of their concerts and they put on a hell of a show into their 60s. Gimme Shelter is my favorite Rock song. But their best stuff could go on a double album. Not near breath or innovation the that The Beatles had who inspired a generation of musicians. At least 100 of the The Beatles 200 songs are good and there‘s a lot of ground breaking stuff. My vote goes to The Beatles.Definitely the Stones, IMO, They are closer to first than they are to third.
Thanks, LSD.The entirety of 65-69 was like pure creative bukkake.
Lennon/McCartney was a formidable songwriting duo, but the true master of popular music was Prince. That man had the closest things to having the hands of God when it came to musicianship.

This song is 10X better than any Beatles song.
I put them top 10 because you can't deny their international influence, but they just weren't my thing. I was born way after their time.Where would you rank them in your greatest bands list?

Ya and I already banged OPs mom.Weren't you just born like 7 years ago?
Mine too. I was commenting on whether the Stones or the Dead should be #2. And Gimme Shelter is my favorite rock song as wellStones have it on longevity and showmanship. Grateful Dead - Had to look up their stats...... Zero number one songs. They had one song reach number 9. Their only top 40 hit. Ever. How in the hell do they even get a mention?
