Top 5 because of their skill at songwriting and production technique. They changed everything. They also stopped performing live shows and lost status as greatest "band". So many of their songs are timeless classics. Other songs haven't aged well and are probably only remembered because they were Beatles songs. I was a huge fan when I was a teen in the 70s, but now think that a lot of their music sounds more like a Lerner and Lowe Show Tune than Rock n Roll.

When I think of “songs of my time” it is the 4 guys from Liverpool. A year ago my bride and I went to a McCartnet concert and the Beatles music was overwhelming...They hugely influenced rock n’roll.
My favorite band tho is Mick and the Boys. Sorry....”I Can’t Help Myself” (MoTown is huge on my list, though).

I'd put the Eagles at least 3rd on that list, maybe 2nd. Of course, I'd put Pink Floyd 2nd or 3rd as well, so there's that.
You could also throw in Springsteen and the E Street Band, and perhaps the Jackson 5 (more performers than band)

You could make the argument that NWA was more influential on today's music than the Beatles or any other band from the 60s/70s era for that matter.

To answer the OP's question, Beatles are Top 5 but not #1. I used to believe that Led Zeppelin was #1 but will concede that they are #2 behind the Rolling Stones. Beatles are sitting in the 3 hole.

Always the same damn bands in these greatest lists.

I will go with Black Sabbath. Geezer and Tommy Iommi are great even by today's standards and they are still influencing bands and it doesn't sound dated as shit even though it is old AF.

Some top British bands....
Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
The Who
Fleetwood Mac
Can America even compete?
Crosby, Stills & Nash (with or without Young)
Buffalo Springfield
Jefferson Airplane
Boston
REM
The Byrds
Beach Boys
The Doors
Journey

If you like more of a country twang then you also have

Creedence Clearwater
Allman Brothers
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Eagles

Plus, while Fleetwood may have launched in the UK, it's really a US band.

Gritty Southern rock greatness.

I love Boston, but I did a CSB with them a long time ago. In the 90s I was playing Duke Nukem a ton on PC, and I played a Boston CD through the PC for months while I played Duke Nukem. Now when I hear Boston, I immediately think of Duke Nukem. It is a big world, but I think there is a good chance that I may be the only person that thinks of that game when I hear Amanda.

Taking an early whack at WPOTY, I see.

Let me know what you think.

I had never heard Poe's Raven put to music - nor have I since. Not only is it awesome, it's not even the best cut on the album.

I enjoyed it. There was a part in it though were I was like "needs less cowbell" but otherwise I didn't even notice when youtube went into more singles and then another full album. I think I'll rip it and put it on my ambiance list to plays quietly in my chilling room.

Remember their Sullivan Show debut like yesterday, Made a bee-line to Grandma’s as soon as I got out of “Youth Fellowship” ……..
“All My Lovin’”….”There Were Bells“ (by Mason City’s own Meredith Willson)….and “She Loves You”……were their first set…..
The girl’s were swooning!
Second set, “I Saw Her Standing There”…..”I Wanna Hold Your Hand“……..was their finale……Quite an exciting night for a 14 year old freshman boy in small town Ioway. But I think at least Theda Iowa had a Democrat for a Govenor!
