That's what happens when Wiscosnin beats LSU and Iowa does what Iowa does, gets a lead and then go into cruise control.

I disagree with the statement but it's amazing how quickly perceptions change.

Not too worried about it. Iowa only beat Illinois State by 17 last year in the season opener.

Today, Miami OH keyed in on a mismatch on Mabin and capitalized. It could have been a different story with Jewell and Hesse in.

I doubt the announcer was keeping track of the Iowa game.

Wisconsin beat LSU and the West is always open.

We were way more crisp in the season opener last year. The D line got pushed around against apparently a beat up and by all accounts bad MAC team. I'm a little concerned.

Anyone who doesn't understand why that Wisconsin win vaulted them into Big 10 West contention conversation by the talking heads doesn't understand the college football industry.

I'm sorry, who else was in the conversation other than Iowa?

You imply that by being "vaulted into...contention" that they were not in contention this morning. Weren't Iowa and Wisconsin seen as the 2 best teams in the Big Ten west prior to today? Did something change?

A lot of people have wrote them off because they play @ Iowa and their crossovers are Michigan, MSU and OSU all in successive weeks I believe.

Wisconsin will be better than people think and be in the race at the end.

I'm not so sure. Having @Michigan, @MSU, Ohio State, @iowa in a four week span is crazy tough for any team.

Even if you go 2-2 in that stretch (all before november), that's still two league loses which means nearly zero room for error in your other games. That stretch alone might knock them out of the race before the end of the year.

What'd you think of Iowa's chances at the beginning of last year? Rhetorical question, but point being college football is very unpredictable and despite the scheduled challenges, Wisconsin might be better off then originally thought.

Honestly last year i thought they'd win 8 or 9.

And you're right you have to play the game. But at this point, I have no reason to believe the believed top four teams won't be good. Even if Wisconsin is crazy good that is still a ridiculously tough schedule.

I am curious to see how LSUs season plays out though.....is Wisconsin that good or is LSU not as good as people thought?

As if Iowa was a lock for the title before yesterday????
The Hawks have a good shot, but they were hardly overwhelming favorites. And despite yesterday's piss poor outing by the defense, they've not suddenly fallen out of contention.

  • Here is the 2016 pre-season Big10 West media poll...

1. Iowa 265 (33)
2. Nebraska 206 (3)
3. Wisconsin 194.5 (2)
4. Northwestern 171.5 (1)
5. Minnesota 132 (1)
6. Illinois 76.5
7. Purdue 46.5

What does that have to do with them running the ball at will?
No jewel?

They're definitely seem to be some assignment issues and I am also a bit concerned

I'm really concerned about our lack of a pass rush Beyond a little bit of chicken fighting and just pushing. Sure they only rushed 4 guys but only 1 player showed any pass rush ability and he will not be starting

Thanks Carnac the magnificent.

"In the West, Iowa was the clear choice, more than the Buckeyes were:

• Iowa (32)

• Nebraska (3)

• Wisconsin (2)

• Iowa, Minnesota tie (1)

• Northwestern (1)

Wisconsin beat a mighty SEC team, of course they have to be a contender in the BIG West. It would look terrible for a highly rated, pre-season NC contender, SEC blue blood to get beat by a weak BIG West also ran. Of course, in the very next breath the ESPN pundit said this loss does not end LSUs national title hopes.
