The key will be getting a shot every possession. They have size and athleticism at every position, and I suspect they will pressure Mackenzie whenever she has it. She's the least dependable ballhandler vs pressure, but she has been better the last month or so. The good news is Tania and Kathleen are both pretty good at making ball pressure pay.
If I'm Lisa my approach is to coach my team to not get caught up in trying to match them out of the gate. Just hang. Don't force plays. Nothing wrong with a few shot clock violations in the first quarter. Get to halftime within 10 or so, max one foul each on Megan and Kathleen. Then let it all hang out in the second half.
Do everything with sincere purpose. Hard cuts. Be prepared to make a play on the catch without hesitation. If it's a shot, shoot it. Rip and go, do it. Catch it and move it, do it. Any hesitation is going to allow pressure to build. Concede rebounding on the offensive end, for the most part. Force Baylor to score as much as possible against a set half-court D.
My hope is that Amanda Ollinger steps up. She's capable of handling it a little, showed some of that over the last month. She's more athletic than people think. And she has some size and a motor. I hope she's ready and the moment isn't too big for her. This game she could really make a difference off the bench. Czinano better be ready, too. Battle like hell, don't give up and-ones. I wouldn't be surprised to see a little Zion Sanders to provide a spark of defensive energy.
A lot of what we saw today won't be available, at least not nearly as available. Megan and Hannah pinning girls on their hip, Tania/Kathleen/Alexis lofting entry passes over the top—doubtful Monday night. Size both pressuring the passers and then the size defending the posts will make this really, really tough.
I'm hopeful for two reasons. First, Iowa played first today, allowing them to watch Baylor be Baylor live and in person. So they know what their challenges are going to be. This is a high-IQ team who I suspect is already hard at work game-planning and preparing for what they're going to face. Second, one of the aspects of Iowa's offensive success is fairly consistent player movement. There is a reason Iowa gets so many open corner threes, and quite a few wing threes as well. Mack and Doyle and Tania don't stand and watch at the wrong times—they move. This is hard to guard mentally. You relax mentally, Iowa can make you pay. Third, because Matt Roth, these girls won't quit on each other.
