The big thing about Iowa- Baylor !

While everyone's focus is in the paint, the game will be decided by the guards. I'm confident Megan and Hannah can hold their own. Just need our guards to hit and for Doyle to continue to get turnovers without fouling. I don't know if Iowa can beat Baylor but they will definitely put up a fight and I expect a close game either way

The key will be getting a shot every possession. They have size and athleticism at every position, and I suspect they will pressure Mackenzie whenever she has it. She's the least dependable ballhandler vs pressure, but she has been better the last month or so. The good news is Tania and Kathleen are both pretty good at making ball pressure pay.

If I'm Lisa my approach is to coach my team to not get caught up in trying to match them out of the gate. Just hang. Don't force plays. Nothing wrong with a few shot clock violations in the first quarter. Get to halftime within 10 or so, max one foul each on Megan and Kathleen. Then let it all hang out in the second half.

Do everything with sincere purpose. Hard cuts. Be prepared to make a play on the catch without hesitation. If it's a shot, shoot it. Rip and go, do it. Catch it and move it, do it. Any hesitation is going to allow pressure to build. Concede rebounding on the offensive end, for the most part. Force Baylor to score as much as possible against a set half-court D.

My hope is that Amanda Ollinger steps up. She's capable of handling it a little, showed some of that over the last month. She's more athletic than people think. And she has some size and a motor. I hope she's ready and the moment isn't too big for her. This game she could really make a difference off the bench. Czinano better be ready, too. Battle like hell, don't give up and-ones. I wouldn't be surprised to see a little Zion Sanders to provide a spark of defensive energy.

A lot of what we saw today won't be available, at least not nearly as available. Megan and Hannah pinning girls on their hip, Tania/Kathleen/Alexis lofting entry passes over the top—doubtful Monday night. Size both pressuring the passers and then the size defending the posts will make this really, really tough.

I'm hopeful for two reasons. First, Iowa played first today, allowing them to watch Baylor be Baylor live and in person. So they know what their challenges are going to be. This is a high-IQ team who I suspect is already hard at work game-planning and preparing for what they're going to face. Second, one of the aspects of Iowa's offensive success is fairly consistent player movement. There is a reason Iowa gets so many open corner threes, and quite a few wing threes as well. Mack and Doyle and Tania don't stand and watch at the wrong times—they move. This is hard to guard mentally. You relax mentally, Iowa can make you pay. Third, because Matt Roth, these girls won't quit on each other.

Also, don't be surprised to see a lot of Megan at the high post, sort of inverting with Hannah. A wrinkle I would add is to post Hannah, flash Megan to the elbow, have Hannah vacate to set a pin-down on a corner shooter to bring that corner girl towards the ball. Something like this might give Megan a chance to lift, rip and drive past her taller/bigger matchup, hopefully Hannah vacating would take the help away.

Once it appeared they had NC State under control today I was hoping Megan would shoot a few more from that top of key area, staging Baylor to maybe overreact to her in that spot on Monday.

Ollinger needs to trust in her shot and let it rip when she is open. I also think Stewart needs to test. NC State left her wide open from three. Not saying she should have a green light but she more than enough space to take a step and pull up from 17. Spacing will be a huge factor and we need Amanda and Hannah to draw Baylor's bigs away from the basket

SIAP, but does anyone know how many points Megan needs to reach 1,000 for the season? TIA

I doubt the Iowa players were watching Baylor, that is up to The scouts and coaches.

I don’t watch a lot of Women’s basketball but caught most of today’s game. How does Baylor compare to Notre Dame who the Hawks lost to by 34 earlier in the season? Seems like there’s always a big gulf between the select, elite teams and the very good teams.

One of the big keys for Iowa is to push the ball up the court as much as possible making 6'7 Kalani Brown sprint back rather than let her setup on defense. Her movement isn't great and she gets winded quickly which in the past has kept her on the bench or got her in foul trouble. Hannah will have her hands full against 6'4 Lauren Cox who is big and highly skilled. Iowa will have to rebound well and likely start in their zone trying to make Baylor hit from the outside. Hopefully they are off as it is going to take a near perfect game to advance.

Simply put, you must hit your outside shots. Do that and you have a chance.

Otherwise their size and athleticism will wear you down.
They got a 20 pt lead on South Carolina when they were 1-3 from the 3 pt line at one point.

However it works out, Iowa cannot let Baylor get their transition game going.

They were 20 points better than Iowa state- and we are closer to Iowa state than Baylor. Nothing to be ashamed of- great season

Baylor has some Amazons. It will be tough, but these Hawkeye ladies can do it!
lmao

Back when I worked at this one place...there was a lady who I swear could beat the shit outta any man. She was like 6-5, with huge muscles.

Sorry, your post just reminded me of her. She was really cool, though.

I'm so proud of the Iowa girls. They deserve more people in the stands.
