So we're through 3 and a half rounds and no Iowa guys yet. If they get to round 5 without an Iowa player getting selected, well have been a team that went 12-2 last year with zero picks in the first 4 rounds of the NFL draft.

If anything that's a testament to the job our coaching staff and team, including that group of unheralded seniors, did last year, and has to leave you feeling at least somewhat optimistic about the immediate future for the Hawks.

........at least for those of you who are capable of feeling optimism and didn't burn all your Iowa gear and renounce your fandom until KF is gone from Iowa City prior to last year (you know who you are). ;)

A little OT, but the Jaguars have drafted two guys (Myles Jack and Jalen Ramsey) that were predicted top 5 picks and both were considered by some (individually) to be the top defensive player in the draft.

Jack has the knee questions, though.

I think Purdue is the only other B1G team that hasn't had a player taken

I agree this is great news for the Hawks, shows that most of he best players on a squad talented enough to go 12-0 and play in the Rose Bowl are still on the team. Kirk is 2nd to none when it comes to getting guys into the league and next year there will be a TON on Hawks drafted.

if you look at cbs sports site (not saying end all be all) but they have for 2017:
#2 QB CJB
#1 CB D King
#6 DT J Johnson
#13 OT C Croston

not too shabby, and I also think Kittle will climb the ranking with a breakout season
I'd have to imagine Jewell and neiman are rated pretty highly, and mabin is prolly a late round pick.

Rudock stays in Michigan getting drafted by the Lions.

As a side note, I see the Vikings selected the wide receiver out of Germany simply because NFL Network was pushing for the pick because the kid was a Vikings fan. About as close to reality show the draft could get.

First time he ever saw anything (US) football related was a youtube video of Adrian Peterson highlights.

And now Dallas takes an in-state school's basketball player as a tight end. But it's the late rounds of the draft when it turns gimmicky. Even the networks are mailing it in with their coverage at this point.

Iowa has had a player drafted every year since 1978......

Guess we had no NFL draft - worthy talent among our seniors this past year.....

This might work out for the better for these Hawkeyes. They'll be able to choose their team through free agency. I have to think many NFL teams will be begging to have these guys as free agents.

I don't accept that. It seems to me that two things are happening here - the first is a stronger reliance on "measurables" than I've seen in a very long time - our guys are simply undersized in terms of weight, height and arm length; the second is the belief that these great college players will be available on the free agent market at bargain basement prices.

What I don't understand, though, is how they have underestimated the Hawkeye development experience, the Iowa pro-readiness experience, and the remarkable track record of our people in the league, regardless of draft or FA status.

There are still a few slots left to draft. Maybe we get somebody in. If not, I predict our 12-0 guys will face a wildfire in Free Agency. And then they will stick; and be good to great pros. And I agree with the sentiment that next year's draft will be pretty memorable for Hawkeye Nation.

I feel like when you get into the late rounds (6th, 7th), there isn't much of a difference between those picks and an undrafted free agent.

Exactly. Many of these final 2 rounds are selections that are made due to some sort of relationship between the NFL team and a college, or the coach of the college, or the player. Not all, but many.

Nebraska-4 (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th)
Illinois-3 (2nd, 6th, 7th)
Minnesota-2 (4th, 4th)
Wisconsin-2 (4th, 6th)
Northwestern-2 (4th, 6th)
Purdue-1 (6th)
Iowa-1 (7th)

I think the draft shows how important team chemistry is. I am fairly certain that JR was not admired by most of his team. Iowa scheduled practice around his classes, he was a prima-donna etc. The coaches new this and it is why they named CJ the starter so early. He is a natural leader and admired by the team.

JR was groomed by Iowa and went to a team with more talent. He will be in med school in two years.

We have a ton of NFL talent on this years team
2017: Johnson, Mabin, King, CJB, Kittle, Croston=Drafted (Daniels, Ekataki, and Vandy FA)
2018: Welsh, Nieman, Myers, Jewell, Boettger, Bazata=Drafted (Wadley, Taylor, Mends might have chance)
