The movie 13 Hours is exposed as fiction

Maybe if someone in the government would actually tell the truth about it, the movie studio might have been able to do a more-accurate job.

How is this proof the movie is wrong? This has always been a he said/she said kinda thing. It's not unreasonable that the guy who is blamed for the 'stand down' order says he didn't do it. Do you think he'd just say, 'yeah, I effed up and 4 people died'.

I don't know which side is right, but this article doesn't clear anything up.

Do you honestly believe a "Stand Down" order was ever given, by anyone?

A Republican lead house in 2014 also found no intelligence failure either. You know the same people that were praying they could dig something up. But I doubt that will change your mind much either. It seems already made up at this point.

So are we then to assume the men that risked their lives to try to rescue the others are lying?

No, but do you really believe everything in the movie is based off fact? You're probably one of the guys who think Chris Kyle wrote American Sniper himself. LOL!!

I have no idea, I wasn't there. Do you know if it was given, because that would clear a lot if things up.

Do you not trust that the 2 year probe from the Republicans would have shed light on the "Stand Down" scandal if there was anything to shed light on? Once the Republicans found nothing, I knew it was all just a show from the beginning.

The words Clinton and Obama are never spoken in this movie, so everyone can just calm down.

Of course these guys could be lying. Or orders could have been misunderstood during the attack. Or 'Bob' could have covered his butt very well and no evidence exists of his order. I have no idea.

That said these guys made a decision to help save American lives if there was a stand down order or not, and it sounds like a brave and admirable thing to do. I understand the Dems on here feel threatened by the movie so their job is to disparage the actions of these guys no matter what.

Carry on then.

Just can't quite bring yourself to admit 13 Hours is a work of fiction, can you?

I find it very ironic that you take a Hollywood movie as gospel, but can't seem to admit that a 2 year probe by a Republican led Congress that didn't find any evidence of intelligence failure isn't enough evidence to change your mind.

Different strokes, for different folks I suppose.

So did these men risk their lives and help save Americans or not? Yes or no.

And where did I say I take it as gospel? It's been well documented that there is debate about these guys claims of the 'stand down order'. Even still, once they volunteered to go help I still think that's a story worth telling.

Don't you?

Please don't lower yourself to this level.. You're better than that. Of course Michael Bay embellishes a lot in his movies. It's called making it entertaining. But I'd believe the men that ran into the fire and risked their lives over some guy named Bob.

You're starting to slip, Fred. Are you feeling sick? You're not "Dying" on us are you? :(

Fred, Jan, please don't turn this thread into another pissing match. You two need to put each other on ignore for a while and give it a rest.

I have no problem discussing this with Fred and Soybean, but you two trading insults for 2 pages per thread is getting old.

These guys are fighters for hire. Think about the guys who do that job...they love violence, danger, killing things. Without getting a stand down order, do you think these guys would actually CHOOSE not to go fight? Logic says the ONLY reason they didn't go was because they got an order not to.

Yes they did according to the book and movie.

I like a good story just as much as the next guy but understand that "Based on a True Story" doesn't always mean there isn't stuff that has been exaggerated to help entertain the audience. All I'm saying is that I found it very strange that you expect Bean and I to follow along with your logic regarding these heroic men because of a book and a movie. Yet for some reason you can't admit the "Stand Down" line probably never happened and we have a 2 year probe by the same people hoping to find fault saying it never happened.

I've read where one of the soldiers from the movie said someone said "Stand Down" verbatim but again, I'm going go side with the actual investigation that found no wrongdoing.

Does that make them any less brave? Is that not an admirable trait? To risk their lives for others?

What about the 2 year probe from the Republican led Congress that didn't find anything? Funny how you and Tim never seem to mention them. I wonder why?

I put nobody on ignore. If you don't like our hijacks maybe you should put us on ignore so you don't have to read them.

Well, Congress investigated this matter and discovered there was never a stand down order given by anyone anywhere...so that works for me.

He's following me around, and I'm doing nothing but being polite to him. Go lecture the real culprit.

It's become the wingnut orthodox mythology. The echo chamber just keeps repeating the lie over and over and over again, and it becomes indisputable fact in the wingnut mind.

How did Congress do with Barry Bonds? Do you think he did steroids? If yes, why couldn't they prove he lied? People lie all the time in front of Congress. It's Washington. The "Truth" is a four letter word in that town.

Fred I get that. But I do find it interesting that these guys are adamant about that claim. If they were making that claim for political purposes, wouldn't they 'go after' Obama and Clinton the movie? I read one of the guys said that he still insists that he got that order, but does NOT think it came from 'high above'. In other words, he wasn't out to get Obama or Clinton.

That said, I can watch this movie knowing there is debate about that order, and still be interested in what happened after they went in.

I'm fully aware there could be things dramatized, like all 'true story' movies. That doesn't necessarily make the elite movie a work of fiction does it?

Another ironic thing is that they believe these soldiers regarding Benghazi, but dispute when the Nave Seals say they actually killed Osama Bin Laden. Because the government won't release pictures of his death as evidence. You can't make this shit up anymore. Partisan politics never ceases to amaze me.

I don't dispute the Navy Seals killed Bin Laden.

S It's been well documented that there is debate about these guys claims of the 'stand down order'.

Oh good grief...there's a well documented "debate" over the reality of the moon landing. Just because someone says it's so doesn't make it so. How do you simply ignore an enormous effort led by the GOP Congress to find fault and coming up empty handed? There was no order to stand down...ever.

Coming from the biggest Dem hack on this board, your words mean nothing to me. Absolute zero.

Who really wanted there to be an intelligence breakdown? The Republicans. Who led the two year probe to find evidence regarding the situation? The Republicans. Not that I actually expect you to admit as much, but I did expect a little more out of the self proclaimed "Most bipartisan person on this board".

Bonds didn't get in trouble because Greg Anderson wouldn't roll over on him. Congress pretty much set the suspension level for PEDs in baseball because Selig was handing out 10 game suspensions and pretty much created a zero tolerance policy that MLB follows today.

Besides the stand down order, what else in this movie is complete fiction?
