The Outlaw: before anyone knew his name.

1) great highlites, but the very best highlights, IMHO were the plays where he is leading blocker as a fullback! Wham! Not one defender stayed on their feet.

2) did anyone else noticed how he ducked his head when making tackles? I am glad the Iowa staff cured him of that. Looked a little dangerous.

I always remember hearing the SC Heelan kids were talking smack to JJ during warm ups and we all no how he reacts to that. That was a one man show in that championship game

Ok so take yourself out of the microcosm that is Iowa..... He is a national name now. Sure there were probably a couple thousand die hard Iowa football fans that knew the name.

You're not talking to the 'nation', you're talking to the microcosm (good word) that is Iowa, so yes, your title is stupid, lol.
I sat with a bunch of coaches watching him at state and we were talking about how Iowa needs to offer this kid. He reminded us of Morris but meaner and/or tougher. Just because some of us are way more knowledgeable about football and what is going on than the average message board hero, doesn't make us 'keyboard' warriors, lol. Fans that continually whine about coaching and recruiting when they know nothing about it are the true 'keyboard warriors'. But you're entertaining sometimes. If you haven't noticed, your pretty much 'alone' in this thread. Are you ever going to tell me who you are again? You keep bringing it up.

And so ends a good thread.

Usually you guys wait to start your pissing match until page 2, don’t you?

"Alone" I would draw your attention to "likes" received. Remeber that time a retired guy used "lol" in mesaage board post? You do realize you talk about how the kid needed to be offered yet JJ was a last minute recruit by our staff in the same breath you say people complain about recruitting. Are you smart enough to see the irony? I have now told you twice, dunce.

He played both ways. He ran the ball like an animal in the championship game.

You are right, I have a vague memory of that game too, as I saw at least a part of it on TV. I remember some people knocking Ferentz and Co for recruiting a relatively unheralded RB from Decorah, or what HS he went to, at that time.

But, now look...a few years later and he is truly one of top players in all of D1. You just never know how a recruit is going to turn out. Congrats to Josey on a tremendous Hawkeye career and best wishes in the pros.

It would be foolish to knock anyone for not recruiting JJ at the time. Its easy in hindsight. He's a good athlete, not great. who became one of the best defensive players in the country because of whats in his chest, and his head. Both pretty hard to evaluate on a high school football player.

Thanks for posting, WDDT, and for the heads-up, TKing. Those lead blocks were really something to behold. And every hit, blocking and especially tackling, he STRUCK the opponent, imposing his forward motion and his will upon them. It was all already there way back then.

Josey? What kind of name is that? I'm sick of these under athletic try hard home grown athletes. (That was me 4 years ago)

I was the ONLY one that said give this hard nosed kid a scholarship. LOL.

I even created a thread and I was pretty much called an idiot.
