"We have learned that the Republican Party is in demographic transition. John Boehner is 65. Paul Ryan is 45. Marco Rubio is 44—but, he likes to say, he feels 45. Ted Cruz is 44, Cory Gardner is 41, Tom Cotton is 38, Elise Stefanik 31. Liberals are terrified of what these young conservatives might accomplish."

I don't know if they are "terrified of what these young conservatives might accomplish". Aafter all, the same extremist policy positions these folks push are the reason they can't win a national election. Democrats are probably more scared about what these people will prevent from happening.

However, this does touch on a major problem in the Democratic Party. The lack of young liberals in the Democratic party is a concern and needs to be a priority for the next administration, whoever it is. The one thing about being out of power in the white house is it does allow for new blood to rise up in the party. That's why there are so many young republicans right now. That's why there were a lot more younger Democrats in 2008.

The Democrats need to have better success at the state level to try and bring in a new generation of leaders.

Revolution you say?

"Terrified"...Really? of what or of whom? These pups have proved they cannot govern too. They have no real solutions to income inequity or job creation. Cut taxes, cut spending, deregulate and allow "the job creators" more leverage.....to move jobs from the USA to overseas. Allow the American worker to pull themselves up by their boot straps making less money and losing more purchasing power.
Not that the Dems are much better,,,,but the GOP has NO ideas, either. None.

You sound terrified.

I am concerned that neither Party has the wherewithall to solve the nation's issues. I don't think I am terrified, yet. Ryan doesn't concern me as much as the fundamental right wing Republican (the Freedom Caucus) do. These guys are nutz.

I agree. We have a leadership crisis. Nobody is inspiring at all.

Don't include the republicans in your self loathing party issues. The GOP has many fresh faces and ideas, as the article alludes to. The American eorker is tired of democratic "answers" and I think you'll be very surprised to see how the next few elections play out.

I don't think we'll ever have another inspiring leader again. People are too skeptical, demand too much transparency and are quick to judge people over the most minor offences. There are no more heroes, we killed them all off.

Please review my thread on nurses. I'm told (by nurses) that they are all heroes.

If all that is true, then "heroes" were definitely obsolete. Heroes are relative anyway. There are plenty of them around, all the time. Maybe they're not as universally recognized, which makes them real heroes!

Every single one of them you've met has told you that they are heroes, eh?

That's funny because I've worked with hundreds of nurses and I can't recall a single one describing him- or herself as a "hero."

You live in a strange place.

Look, i'm not saying EVERY one, but a lot. Many don't need to say anything directly. They set the bait on facebook and wait for every woman they know to come and call them great, heroic, etc. "You go girl, they don't know anything about what a 'true hero' is..."
