The season long haters

Binary bias just baffles me. Why do I have to be in one of only two buckets? Why can’t there be an infinite number of buckets?
I don’t know what is worse…..the people who constantly complain, or the ones who pick Iowa to win every game and then start threads lecturing others with “I told you so” and their smug attitude.

And the term “hater” needs to go away.

December: this team will go nowhere until they seriously commit to defense and rebounding.

then that happens and anybody who suggested it is labeled as a hater. It’s ironic.

Edit to say there are some other things happening that are icing on the cake. Connor finally getting hot means defenses have to play iowa differently when he’s on the floor and that means his minutes aren’t as much of a waste. Similarly JBo to point guard has helped. It’s not all a bigger commitment to defense and rebounding.

It's not that. Don't you get it?

When some posts "Fran can't/won't coach defense", that's flat out wrong. It's obvious this staff can coach defense. So when someone (like me) points this out after a loss, they get groef from those who are 100% sure they are right. OR they insist that the coach suddenly started teaching these fundamentals mid season, thus the turnaround. LOL! Like that's even remotely possible with a game every 3 days and game plans to implement. Some of the comments are so ludicrous that laughter is the only response possible.

There’s really only one way for Fran to prove anybody wrong and that’s with March success. Otherwise it’s 12 years of great offense, a few NBA players, and not much else until we do it all again next year.

IMPORTANTLY - I’m not saying this team will flame out early, not do I want it to happen. I’m just saying if the Hawks are done early yet again, it’ll be disappointing with Keegan gone and next year looking like another “middle of the pack” type team.

Isn't this obvious?

Agree - it should be

That's why OP posts...and other crow eating posts... seem a little premature right now. Its obvious Fran has done a great coaching job this year and the team is on a role... and has been a lot of fun.

A nice tourney run in the BIG and NCAA would really solidify Fran's ability (fan confidence...whatever you want to call it) to take that next step. Looking forward to rest of March

So if they lose early in each tourney we’re they right? Nothing has been proven yet. Getting 4th place in the BIG isn’t the goal.
True they could lose the first game in the tourney, but I think not. Also winning the Big 10 is the goal but Iowa was really considered a ninth-place team at the beginning of the year due to loosing Garza, Weezy, CJ and the kid that went to Xavior. So, a fourth place is in reality pretty good in a lot of people's minds

Lol—. Sorry they proved you terribly wrong again. JBo haters must be on suicide watch😀
Those who level criticism at the program are Iowa fans, not Iowa haters. I'm sure most prefer to not criticize but if they see something that bothers them they have every right to express their views.

Don't let it bother you.

I'll eat crow. I though Toussaint was the obvious pick for starting pg. I still feel bad he's had his minutes cut, but I'm happy everything worked out. I guess I can admit Fran might know a little more about basketball than I do. Whew that was tough to say.

On a more serious note, what a great way for JBo to end his career at Iowa. He seems like the type of guy who revels in being the underdog. He's been an underdog his whole career at Iowa and it think that fuels his competitive fire.

Meh. Still would love nothing more than for Fran to be gone. Hope the Hawks win every single game, just can't wait for Fran to depart.

You are correct, I’m not a real fan for wanting Kris Murray, the second best athlete and player on the team to play more which will help Iowa win more games. I should be flogged and banned from ever watching Iowa games in person and on tv rooting for them to win. Are you happy OP since you are a perfect fan passing judgement at Iowa fans on an Iowa freaking message board?

Hopefully the team expects to win the tourney.

Fourth place is great, due to the reasons you listed. Much better than expected by most fans.

Still……I would really like to see a Sweet 16. Something Fran has never accomplished here. To do so well in the regular season and then flame out again in the NCAA tournament would make the season a disappointment, IMO.

Yes, we should all enjoy the ride and assess the season when it is over. There is no reason to overreact either way to every play or game.

It's simple really.

If you agree with me, you are in my bucket. If don't, you are in the other bucket.

;)
I stole the term from Adam Grant’s newest book “Think Again” where he delves into what you describe quite a bit and offers ways to break through it. I highly recommend the read (I am not Adam Grant or his publisher).

they didn't start winning until i started complaining. maybe i deserve some credit for this hot streak.

I expected a big year from Joet!! :(

Kris has topped 25 mins in regulation only 4 times this year. The pu game refs screwed us, OSU, in and last night.

Stupid fans wanting him to play more ;)

Oh they’ll jump on the bandwagon very soon and say they knew they’d turn it around.

In terms of preseason expectations, the number of people who predicted 4th place or at worst now a 6 seed in the b10 tourney, and safely in the NCAA tourney after losing two NBA guys and two others to transfer is lying. I thought best case scenario was to be flirting with the bubble and likely need to win one or two in the conference tourney to cement a bid.
It's like some people can't fully enjoy a win unless they're throwing other posters' dumb comments back in their faces. Even comments in game threads. Pretty weird.
Depends on the take. Sometimes a comment deserves such a response.
These threads kinda crack me up when even Fran admitted their rebounding and defense was pretty crappy for a lot of the season...
Yes, but the theme for years has been Fran doesnt care about defense. He clearly does, and I think adding Toussaint, Ulus and perkins especially reflects that. I don’t think anyone can truly argue frn doesn’t want to win, and he’s a smart guy, he knows elite offense combined with mediocre defense will only take you so far.
