Hope you're right. After shooting like garbage as we did today, we tend to get hot so like our chances.
Yup. That awful team has lost 5 in a row and is 1-10 over their last 11 games with that one victory a blowout 16 point win. Who was that against again?Ohio St is awful. Obviously 2-0 would be tremendous but I see 1-1. This is not your moms NW team.
Iowas key to beating osu is the same as every game, execute on offense and then hit the shots.Need to jump on OSU early, and they will fall apart. They seem to have lost their fight, which surprises me. Give OSU confidence and it is hard for the Hawks to match their physicality. Must win that game to get where I want the Hawks to finish.
NW is going to be a tough one. Our guards need to play better than they have been playing to win that game.
I'll be happy if we beat OSU and then win 2 of the final 4 (3 on the road). Less would be disappointing. Better would be outstanding.
Get a win Thursday and man what a big game on Sunday at night NW!Iowas key to beating osu is the same as every game, execute on offense and then hit the shots.
We know the defense won't be anything but mediocre.
Keep winning, and the next game becomes a really big game. Loss to OSU, and it will be very unlikely that the Hawks finish higher than 11-9.Get a win Thursday and man what a big game on Sunday at night NW!
They have IU this week. So getting us after 2 big games so it’s possible. Of all the times to play on weekend Sunday evening the worst so who knows how crowd will be.Both seem eminently winnable, also maybe can take advantage of a letdown by NW
Good points and spot on! I really hope we take it to OSU early and often. Need to pay them back from their 1 win in recent memory which was against us.Northwestern is built very similarly to Rutgers in how they play defense. They converge hard on drives and post feeds and over-play passing lanes which is how they create a lot of turnovers. This style of defense also leads to a lot of open 3s off of kick backs and the guards going for steals. Iowa is 34/72 (47%) against those 3 teams so far this season. I'm hopeful that Iowa will continue that on Sunday in Evanston.
Northwestern played well against Purdue and I'm not trying to take anything away from that win, but Purdue just simply shot the ball poorly going just 5/22. I watched most of the game and a good potion of those misses were open looks too. Obviously the 16 turnovers that Northwestern created was also the difference in the game. Iowa's going to need to take care of the ball.
Didn't they beat northwestern early January? I guess ill look up on Google.Good points and spot on! I really hope we take it to OSU early and often. Need to pay them back from their 1 win in recent memory which was against us.
No doubt. Perkins, Sandfort and Ulis are up and down like yoyo's. Cmac is struggling with his shot, and even before his mental health issues, Pmac has always been wildly inconsistent.Would be nice at this latter part of the season if ALL of our players started performing with some consistency. We have come to count on Kris and Filip to bring their best every game, but it's really exasperating wondering who else might actually show up for the game and play their best. By now we should be able to count on certain players performing at a high level and not just disappearing from game to game.
That's a perfect explanation of a lot of our players. They can go off and score a ton or just disappear. You never know.No doubt. Perkins, Sandfort and Ulis are up and down like yoyo's. Just like PU's White and Loyer. They combined for 15/26 and 41 points vs. Iowa but 2/13 and 12 points vs. NW. I'd be the first to admit NW's D is better than ours BUT it does seem like there are times where teams go off on us to the point of unbelievability. Sometimes you can't hit those same shots in an unguarded practice yet they did against us...That's a perfect explanation of a lot of our players. They can go off and score a ton or just disappear. I seriously doubt the Hawks will come away with the Dubya @ Indiana, but if they win the rest?Anything can happen in this league…..Hawks are gonna win out!!! 🤷♂️✌️🤷♂️😋
It's hardly unbelievable when it happens regularly. There's a reason why that seems to be the case.Just like PU's White and Loyer. So why did Tony P get 32 vs. Illinois and only 8 vs PU?It's hardly unbelievable when it happens regularly. There's a reason why that seems to be the case.
Tony is a very inconsistent player. I'm not sure what this has to do with Iowa's defense. So why did Tony P get 32 vs. Illinois and only 8 vs PU?
So Illinois defense is worse than Purdue's. Got it...Tony is a very inconsistent player. I'm not sure what this has to do with Iowa's defense.
No, Tony takes a lot of off balance mid range jumpers which is a low percentage shot.So Illinois defense is worse than Purdue's. Got it...
That's why you can't let guys get going. It's a symptom of our soft defense. It's also why unheralded guys seem to go off against us. We need to come out with the intensity we show at the end of games in the first 5 mins and set the tone.Just like PU's White and Loyer. They combined for 15/26 and 41 points vs. Iowa but 2/13 and 12 points vs. NW. Or OhioSt freshman scoring a billion against us in our first match-up. He's good but not that good.Just like PU's White and Loyer. They combined for 15/26 and 41 points vs. Iowa but 2/13 and 12 points vs. NW. I'd be the first to admit NW's D is better than ours BUT it does seem like there are times where teams go off on us to the point of unbelievability. And in games we have done that it's been quite the difference. Hopefully with Frans comments about rebounding and defense we show up with just that sort of aggressive play. That's why you can't let guys get going. It's a symptom of our soft defense. It's also why unheralded guys seem to go off against us. We need to come out with the intensity we show at the end of games in the first 5 mins and set the tone.
I doubt it. OSU should be in IC by now, and the snow is expected to start in the early am and taper off by 2-3. Parking will be a s***show, but, I doubt there will be many people there to complain about the parking. With the weather forecast of 6 to 7 inches of snow in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area could this game be postponed, what would the fall out be if this game is never playe?
Iowa guards let Likely back them down all second half and for some reason they just lost track of Sensabaugh a bunch of times in the first half.I know they’re in free fall right now but that first matchup with OSU is still stuck in my mind. I hope it was a case of a complete lack of effort(gave up 1.31 ppp) and not some weird matchup issues.
Sandfort, Dix and Patrick all need to be worked in more often.1. Fran needs to give Sandfort a longer leash, he is our best shooter
2. We will need Ogundele down the stretch as we MUST keep both Rebraca and Kris out of foul trouble, while still at least trying to defend the rim (5-7 minutes per game)
3. Can we find a few more minutes for Dix, at the 1, 2 or 3?
So why did Tony P get 32 vs. Illinois and only 8 vs PU?
1. Fran needs to give Sandfort a longer leash, he is our best shooter (48% from 3 since 1/8)
2. We will need Ogundele down the stretch as we MUST keep both Rebraca and Kris out of foul trouble, while still at least trying to defend the rim (5-7 minutes per game)
3. Can we find a few more minutes for Dix, at the 1, 2 or 3?
Hes had that same freethrow line shot plenty of times since and hasn't made a single one. He usually shoots it off balance for some reason.I think a ton of it has to do with being able to get to his spot in the lane and attacking. Illinois let him do his thing. He, like everyone else for Iowa, wouldn't attack Edey.
