Watching the Hawks control the MSU game last night, I couldn't help thinking that this team can still get better. If they ever have a game where they are firing on all cylinders....look out.

I mean offensively and defensively, we were pretty close to firing on all cylinders. We would have beaten almost anyone in the country last night, which is about all you can ask for.

Maybe in the first half. The offense in the 2nd half only scored 28 points...

we decided to milk the clock in the second half with gessel shooting off balance with no time to get an open shot.it was effective but I wish we could just keep the pedal to metal the whole game.I think we may see that approach as success starts building and we realize we can beat most teams thoroughly.

Agreed. JU only 5/18, MG with some early foul trouble, slowed offense in the 2nd half. There is definitely room for improvement, which makes last night even more impressive.

Missed alot of freethrows, Good thing they were not needed but that is a concern. Going into delay mode with near 6 mins left and just running poor sets with like 12 seconds on the shot clock needs to change. I am guessing you might start seeing teams pressure our inbounds more since we struggled a little with it in previous games. Over all though I think that was pretty close to all cylinders. Maybe a few more points from Woody. I liked the way they were attacking in the first half.

I'm all for milking the clock, but you still have to run your offense. Having everyone stand on the baseline until there's about 6 seconds on the shot clock and then chucking up a terrible shot is playing right into the other team's hands. We're lucky MSU didn't get a few more shots to go down otherwise it would've been a nail biter at the end.

I'm not trying to be negative. Just giving my thoughts on our late game offense. Can't wait for the Michigan game this Sunday!

It worked but I didn't really care for milking the clock to that extent.

It's the same strategy that lost the ISU game.

I understand running some clock but there was allot of wasted positions where we didn't even get a decent look.

If MSU comes down and hits some of those threes it's a different game. They got decent looks and we were missing free throws again.

If were going to stall the ball needs to get into Uthoffs hands around the 12 second mark, if someones going to go one on one and force a shot it needs to be him.

Totally agree.

Agree with the upside remark. I noticed back during the first exhibition game when we scored 19 points in 4 1/2 minutes that the guys had put together about 270 seconds of perfect basketball. Defense, steals, causing turnovers, rebounding, making shots. It was just an entire package. And it occurred to me then that if the players figure out they can do that, and start making those moments turn into stretches turn into halves turn into games? We could do great things.

It's like the same material, the same guys, but how they decide to play as a group. I kept coming up with examples and eventually one stuck in my head of a fancy model put together but the glue hadn't dried.

Well, maybe the glue has dried? It just doesn't seem like other teams can knock us off our game for as long or as often. But, I think there is more there, and I think the guys are seeing it. This is who we are. A pretty darn good team.

As to the milking the clock thing? I agree, I don't like it. We can run the offense and stay patient, we don't need to stall.
