This country.....

Guess you better take doe the American flag to then. It represents a rebellion and flew over slavery as well.

We clearly never settled if the States in Revolt were defending themselves against a foreign power as the Colonials did against Britain. Opinions differ to this day. I'll give you that. But as to flying over slavery, so did every state flag I just said would satisfy my interests!

Nice try though. ;) About half witty.

Very true...decadent, weakened by politics and war, illegal immigration, allowing enemies of the empire a spot at the table. Are you sure you weren't in one of my World Civilizations classes that I taught?

Just more PC brainwashing...preparing him for the road to the cotton field...and no doubt he will be signing merrily as he goes...

I just returned from there. Slaves built that place too and it all went to crap when the Christians got power.

Sure, the dark ages really turned things around.

LOL! They did! But we're playing a bit with the plot.

Kind of like I was playing with the "State Flag" comment earlier. Not one state currently flies a flag completely identical to a Civil War flag. There are some that have similar designs, such as Georgia. But many don't. Virginia never changed their flag, even during the Civil War. The Tennessee legislature proposed a change before the start of the war, but never got around to it. In fact their current flag wasn't adopted until 1905 and if I were to say it looks like a pretty soccer ball.

th
Stunned no State's Righters caught my little test!!! What, gonna kill someone for taking down the soccer ball flag!?!?

I didn't say they would kill you over the flag...who cares...I said they would kill you for taking this down...

Now understand Dan-el I doubt our NBF tribute means near as much to you as this does...

OK, I admit you did mention statues and the Confederate flag. I shouldn't pick on you, I love the Smokey Mountains.

The design and theme was created in 1818. The addition of states stars has not fundamentally changed the flag.

so it is different?

1818?

The First Official United States Flag: This 13-Star Flag became the Official United States Flag on June14th, 1777 and is the result of the congressional action that took place on that date. Much evidence exists pointing to Congressman Francis Hopkinson as the person responsible for its design. The only President to serve under this flag was George Washington (1789-1797). This Flag was to last for a period of 18 years.

Each star and stripe represented a Colony of which there were thirteen, united nearly one year earlier by the Declaration of Independence. The thirteen Colonies are listed below with the date that each ratified the Constitution and became a State.

1818 is when it was decided to keep 13 stripes and one star for each state. Prior to that a stripe was added for each new state as well.

I see all those "IOWA" t-shirts in Iowa City and always figured it stood for "I Oughta Went to Ames"

No its not. Both are horrible times and enormous embarrassments to each country. Are you suggesting that there is some huge divide between how slaves were treated from start to finish versus how the Nazis treated the Jews? If you are, than its not a a debate i am going to have with you.

You CAN'T be serious?

Would burning all of our current flags be bad since that could contribute to man made global climate change?

One could make an valid argument that the conditions new slaves went through on their way to America was as bad as what the Jews faced. Many watched their families killed in raids by other tribes and many died on route to the Americas in the inhumane conditions on slave ships, the majority of which were not American. To compare the treatment of slaves in the US to the holocaust is beyond asinine though. Most slaves lived in conditions comparable to poor whites. Some lived better lives than poor whites. Sadly the worst conditions for slaves was often found on black owned plantations. People tend to forget that free black southerners owned slaves at a higher rate than whites did. People are purposely quite ignorant of the real history, because emotionally, they can't handle it.

The real history is that slavery lasted in this country for 246 years. A bit longer than what occured under the 3rd Reich. There is nothing emotional about that.

How many slaves were killed while being SLAVES over that 246 year period? Do you know the answer?

This country's Constitution called a black person 2/3 of a white person.

How did the KKK treat slaves? Were they hung in masses?

This is all i am going to say. Please dont insinuate I am ignorant of the history of either event.

My initial comment had to do with a black person having to live with blatant symbols of slavery (the confederacy) in modern life. Some feel these symbols should exist. I dont.

The confederate battle flag is no more a symbol of slavery or racism than the American flag. Only a few short decades ago and even occasionally today you see blacks proudly displaying it as a sign of Southern pride and heritage. Those who think otherwise are absolutely ignorant.

I often wonder about those poor whites as they watched their husbands, or wives, or children sold and taken away. And how those poor whites were not allowed to learn to read. Thank the Heavens there was an Underground Railroad to help those poor whites escape, because we know they couldn't just pick up and move if they felt like it!

Wait...those were the slaves. As to stats mentioned above, I want to see a link. I have NEVER heard such stats before.

I'm guessing you mean about black slave owners:

Oh boy. :( How do I put this? Consider the source............Just a few statistics in and I knew this was WAY OFF. Sorry. I'm not trying to be offensive but here's your chance, take my advice and research the topic on your own, with other sources. You'll find you've been had.
I suggest you do the same.
