Nice couple with some young kids down the street. Walked by their house that they were renting from my neighbor, the mayor every morning on the way to coffee. Saw a bunch of crap on the front lawn this weekend like they moved out abruptly. I was just told by another neighbor that they went to Columbia to visit family over spring break but we're denied entry back into the states. He was here working on a visa, but they aren't being allowed back into the country. I don't get it.

Why does it have to be so abrupt? Why not give them a bit of time to gather their stuff and wrapup any affairs in the US before it's revoked?
They didn't want to let them reenter the country so that was that. I really feel sorry for them. I think the young woman was pregnant on top of it. Maybe CBP was afraid of another brown person getting birthright citizenship before they outlawed it.

I'm guessing there's more to the story.

Too brown, yo.

Wow....I knew like Missouri was almost a 3rd world country, but had NO IDEA how back Columbia had gotten these days...
lol - I really hope you were trying to just be funny? I’m sure that he meant the country…Columbia (in South America) and NOT Columbia, Missouri. 😳

Good!

For decades it has been very common for a visa to be revoked if you leave the country. Immigration rules are Byzantine.

How do you know they weren’t in contact and they went to Colombia two steps ahead of ICE?

I could be wrong but I don't believe that to be the case here. I spoke with their landlord who also, as I said happens to be a friend and the mayor of our town this morning. They've been living in the states for 11 years. He was here on a work visa which apparently has since expired. Their 2 kids were both born here and have only known the U.S. as their home. They were visiting family, why I don't know, but were not allowed to return. As they had no idea that this was going to occur, all of their belongings were still in the home.

If you are in the country on an expired work visa, probably a dumb idea to leave said country.

I have sympathy for what they are going through for sure. The way this is happening now is cruel.

But staying here for years on an expired work visa is just not something that most people think is appropriate. They shouldn't be allowed or have been allowed to stay for 11 years. It does seem incredibly short sighted for them to have left the country knowing they didn't have a legal visa, and they probably should not be allowed to return.

It's weird that we have created a situation/environment that they thought it was fine to stay, and even leave an return, without legal status.

Given the very public stories floating around right now if someone who is here on a visa wants to continue staying here then they need to cancel any plans to leave the country. They don't even care if they make a mistake when they deny you reentry.

Oh bullshit. They have not just been revoking visas. You are gaslighting to the max and trying to normalize this.

Editing this to offer a simple mea culpa that the family should not have left when the work visa was expired. I still think this is a bullshit situation. Remember how they promised they were only going after violent criminals....

I'm sorry as a democrat I have to agree with this. I also think it's why birthright citizenship is a silly thing in todays day and age.
Side note: I think the right to own military assault weapons with expanded clips doesn't belong in the constitution as well. Why we are ok saying you can't have a rocket launcher or missile but it's ok to have a weapon capable of killing more people than both of them combined is beyond me

Expired work visa is just not a good thing. He was definitely here long enough to be in process for citizenship, too.
I hope things work out for them.
Again as a democrat:
How does this not fit into the FAFO mantra some of you like to apply to republicans that voted for trump?

People coming in on legit Visas are getting abducted.
Going to crush the US tourism industries in 2025. And that's going to hit lots of small biz "red areas" hard this year

Why are you people obsessed for letting people live here illegally? Why are you obsessed with making excuses for others. If anything, you should be talking about how effing dumb these illegals were for leaving the country with a severely expired work visa. But instead you want to make excuses and blame others.

Incredibly stupid decision by the parents. I certainly feel awful for the kids, but this one is on their folks. Having an expired visa is bad enough, but then to willfully leave the country to visit family amid everything that is going on right now, that's really dumb.

You’re as full of shit as a Christmas turkey.

However, the claim may refer to an incident in 1927 when Trump's father was arrested at a KKK rally in Queens. The incident was picked up by news site Boing Boing in 2015. It cited a New York Times article from June 1927 saying that Fred Trump was named among seven men who were arraigned following a "free-for-all" between "1,000 Klansmen and 100 policemen."

and then there is Musk giving the Nazi salute multiple times.

Also, are you saying I'm not full of shit or do you eat turkey with shit in it?

Many reasons from what I am seeing:
They’re not interested in facts
They’re trolls
They’re foreign plants
They’re angry and disaffected leftists
They’re prime Grade A dumbasses
Some are so special they’ve earned the distinction of being all of the above.
