This might be a futile exercise but maybe I’ll actually learn something by listening.

I have never gotten a reason I can understand about why people would prefer Trump to be our president. This is an honest question, I hear I like his policies but when I ask specifically which policies I get general comments, nothing specific, like immigration or tax cuts,( which I get if you’re a billionaire, but I don’t have any access to billionaires to ask). Seriously Trump supporters, why do you want Trump for president

It’s a futile exercise. The answers you seek do not exist. MAGA is a cult. As with all/most cults, those not in the cult sit and wonder why would these people believe all this BS. Why don’t they just leave the cult?

It’s the same answer as to the question why my neighbor doesn’t believe dinosaurs aren’t real. It’s simple, they have been brainwashed.

Being POTUS is a job. A job that requires managing 90% of the federal government. It is not a job of unicorns and pixie dust leading us in a new direction. In 2016 he said he'd get taxes cut, secure the boarder, get all energy flowing, get out of needless wars, get NATO countries to pay their required shares. Which all pretty much happened. His admins policies led to the lowest unemployment rate in forever and $2 gas. Pretty much got out of Iraq, defeated ISIS and Afghanistan was quiet, and two-three Arab nations signed peace deals with Israel.

He's an arrogant ass and he's not presidential because he's not a politician or a monarch. He's the boss and that doesn't sit well with bureaucrats, which I'm very happy with.

Saying that, I really don't know what his goals are this time around, other than the border, which the current admin has messed up and lied about for four years (couldn't do anything until the election came around?). I want a POTUS who has experience leading, acting, deciding. KH has done none of that. Being a Senator at one time puts her at the bottom of any list of mine.

This lays a fairly decent outline, I would also add getting back to us getting the upper hand in negotiations.

I would also add, I think there is a portion of the left who doesn't really want to leave the "new" of the pandemic. They got to sit at home and got checks and can't figure out why they eventually made everything suck. I'm voting to quit pandering to stupidity as much as I think Trump exemplifies some great leader.

Interesting take:
-energy has been flowing and flowing before and after trump.
-it doesn't take trump to cut taxes, every republican wants to give money back (to the really wealthy) but not cut spending. If they do want to cut spending it's in their self interests.
-Border: well, he's made it an is issue, no doubt. He doesn't want it solved either. He made the border bill go away. which shows how much he really cares about results, just how the results that affect him.
-NATO: tell me theres not a better way to get people to pay without international turmoil, leading to putins invasion.
-Lowest unemployment has nothing to do with his policies and $2 gas... lol
-got out of Iraq?? R's got us in there.... besides R's still act like it was Biden that chose to pull out of afganistan, so your judgement doesn't hold much water.
-Arab peace deals? yep we certainly should question the billions jared got and what $$ the trump organization got from his "friendly" treatment of saudi arabia.

There so much grift there but you worry about hunter... lol. Your outrage doesn't match the various levels of grift.

trump does virtually everything the opposite of a leader. he's the bizzaro world version. A clown in full makeup..

Ask yourself how we ended up with Trump in the first place. If you figure it out you'll have my answer.

Does it bother you at all that he is a repeated convicted fraudster? Does it bother you at all that he is a habitual liar? Does it bother you at all that he has spewed repeated lies about the 2020 election? Does it bother you at all that he has been found liable for sexual assault? Even if you agree with his positions, he’s a horrible person. With a personality that shouldn’t be trusted in a position of power.

Put another way, in the Trump administration, a United States District Attorney was investigating Hunter Biden. Typically, when a new president is elected, the US District attorneys resign and are replaced. Biden kept him in place to avoid the appearance of influence.

Will Trump fire Jack Smith? Of course he will. Because it’s all about Trump.

Just a brief and simple question for the Trump supporters: Do you trust Trump with our national security secrets?

A secure border. More support for law enforcement. No tampons in the boys bathroom. Improve inflation. Less regulation on drilling which impacts gas prices, inflation, and energy independence. Many more things.

During his first term, he did not secure the border.

Trump wants to free dudes in jail that beat up cops. He called them patriots.

Trump has NO CLUE how to fix inflation, plus that's a world problem, not just an America problem.

I filled up my truck today for $2.90/gallon

You need to stop getting your talking points from Fox News.

A secure border. WHY DID HE KILL THE BIPARTISAN BORDER BILL THEN?

More support for law enforcement. LIKE THE CAPITOL POLICE THAT WERE ASSAULTED BY HIS THUGS?

No tampons in the boys bathroom. JUST WTF ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT?

Improve inflation. PREPARE FOR MORE INFLATION WITH HIS PROPOSED TARIFFS.

Less regulation on drilling which impacts gas prices, inflation, and energy independence. DOMESTIC OIL PRODUCTION IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH AND YOU CLEARLY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE GLOBAL OIL MARKET

Many more things. MAYBE YOU CAN FIND A VALID REASON HERE, KINDA DOUBT IT THOUGH AS YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY A LOW LOW LOW INFORMATION KINDA GUY.

What do tampons in boys restrooms have to do with national politics? More border law enforcement was roundly rejected by Trump about 2 months ago. What leg does he have to stand on? The border was hardly “secure” during his 4 years as POTUS. Inflation was created bu BOTH political parties……Trump gets a lot of ther credit because of his “covid free money” legislation….and also because of his misplaced tax cut legislation. You think BIG OILK should be able to drill where ever they choose with no rules? You dont think that OPEC has a huge say in what we pay for gasoline in the USA?

I applaud you for actually trying to listen to both points of view. That’s what learning truly is to me.

Another question might be: Will anyone watch the debate tonight with an open mind? Or are debates just a waste of time?

She is the most liberal politician in washington. If you love socialism and your life controlled by the government vote for her. If you like chasing the american dream and capitalism, vote for trump.

She is the most liberal politician in washington.

Hasn't this been overused by, just a little bit???

No more than both parties saying the other candidate is a:

1-threat to democracy
2-threat to America as we know it

I mean....Trump tried to overturn a free and fair election with fake electors.

So he literally did attempt to keep control of a government after the people voted him out.

That I won’t argue. But. Do you honestly believe it ever could have happened?

They are listening. Before Trump, if you asked me the percentage of Americans who want a white Christian nation run largely by men (aka White Supremacy /KKK) I would have said 5%. That answer is really closer to 25% and a huge chunk of white Americans, especially in rural areas, truly want this. So they are listening to every word he says and love it because they want it desperately.

Well, thanks to Mike Pence for not folding. But if he had, this likely would have ended up in SCOTUS, and how do you think that would have gone?

I’m happy that Pence did the right thing.

I think the Supreme Court would have made the right decision. There really wasn’t evidence to prove anything.

So, no I don’t see him as a threat to democracy just like I don’t see Harris as a threat to America

I think if the right people are in the right positions, then yes it could happen. The first time was practice, and now the lessons have been learned.

I don't want to know whether it could actually happen or not simply because of how close it already did come to happening.

I don’t think it was close to happening at all.

But, I suppose it could happen if all the wrong people were in the right places. For either party.

Election interference/rigging has happened in the US so I suppose it could happen again

Today is a great example of the wrong people in right places. JD Vance said if he was in Pence's position, he wouldn't have certified the election results in 2020.

Like I said, the first run was practice. They learned and have fixed the issues that stopped them from keeping power despite losing the election.

I’m just guessing, but sometimes politicians just say stuff to gain favor of the voters. Maybe it’s just me, but I trust very few things that any politician says.

Politicians are shady creatures, but I'm not sure who exactly would hear him say that and be like "Oh man, I'm voting Trump/Vance now" that wasn't already going to vote for the ticket. That's not playing to moderates, that's playing to the extremists that believe the 2020 election was stolen. I don't think there's many undecided voters in that group.

A very reasonable attempt (except (i) gas was cheaper in Obama's last few years except for Covid-lows https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2024/07/12/were-gas-prices-under-trump-lower/, (ii) he failed to make Mexico pay for a wall, (iii) he failed to "drain the swamp" (maybe the opposite https://reason.com/2024/05/08/trump-promised-to-drain-the-swamp-he-did-the-opposite/), and (iv) he put the US in a bad spot in Afghanistan through his agreement with the Taliban. You also missed his "best" accomplishment for Republicans, which is his long-lasting impact on the judiciary), all of that said, this comment deserves some discussion because it comes up a lot...

"He's an arrogant ass and he's not presidential because he's not a politician or a monarch. He's the boss and that doesn't sit well with bureaucrats, which I'm very happy with."

First, Trump has been running for president since 2015 (is that a new record?), when does he become a politician?

More importantly, it's painful to see these oft-repeated "positive" traits of Trump heralded by team MAGA (aka he "tells it like it is" and "do you miss the mean tweets?"). Trump is an objectively proven liar, who is fake tough, thinks he's the smartest guy in the room (despite much evidence to the contrary), with no tact and limited (at best) ability to compromise. This is exactly how not to lead and how things don't get accomplished in our system for the betterment of us normal folk. But unfortunately some people think because he's an asshole he's a decisive leader. Mind-bottling.
