This was a test for Sullivan, and he failed

He can’t be really good. Been in college 4 years now and he can’t drop back and deliver. Runs way too early and makes terrible mistakes. Likeable guy but not a starter at this level
Nailed it. If he was a freshman or sophomore you could understand but he’s way to quick to break the pocket and look to run. Almost all of his passes are to the flat or quick outs. Honestly only first drive do I remember there be anything but.

That's the only thing I can come up with for the way the plays were called.
Sullivan was 14 for 18 passing for 131 yards. That is 78% and he threw the ball away twice and he had that crucial pass late that Gill dropped. Sully ran the ball ok but he had two big sacks.

The INT was not a good play. But he played well and I dont see where you are others might think he played poorly.

The pass rush hurried him a lot when it was 2nd and 3rd down and long but that is not his fault as he did escape for a few good runs.

His 14 for 18 passing with a couple of throw aways negates your thought that he cant deliver in the passing game.

I do agreen he was flushing out of the pocket a second too early and the INT was a late bad throw as the receiver sort of stopped to keep the first down distance

Other than the long ball to Ostrenga, I don’t recall a pass going downfield beyond 10 yards, max. Maybe there were routes run past 10 yards, and they were covered or Sullivan didn’t see them, but on tv it’s hard to see that far down the field until the ball is thrown.

He seems to check to running quickly. Again, it’s hard to tell on tv why he’s doing that - no one open or he’s not being patient enough. If it’s the former then he’s a good option because Iowa will need a QB who can run. If it’s the latter then he’ll need to work on that a lot over the next 8 months.

It’s hard to judge without more information.

On the flip side and I’m not asking to be a smartass but did Iowa blitz one time? I don’t recall. It’s not a good spot to be in having to blitz to get heat but to not blitz on top of it occasionally is criminal lol.
That’s a good point- I don’t recall but the defense took a huge step back this year… I guess Iowa shines on defense when their not expected to be as good but when they are they always seem to fall short. I like next years defense and I think it will be better then this past years

131 yards passing is not going to win games. This is college football we are talking about. Not Junior High.

And he only broke 100 yards cause of two passes.

The 25-30 yard to TE which was a great throw and catch.

The last series on 2nd down he dumped the ball off behind LOS and the RB somehow got 17-19 yards which put us in the position to fail on 4th and 1

So that’s 12 completions for 90ish yards ? That’s insane that we can’t throw the ball past the sticks

And yeah, it might be influenced a lot by an OL that cannot protect for > 3 seconds

Didn’t you see Gill drop that important pass that caused us to punt?
This, It's all about execution. Dropped pass, Interception and hesitation on the 1 yd run play besides the penalty on the sideline all contributed to the loss.
I feel Lee # 8 is a weak link on defense. Given up big pass plays all season.
Only a sophomore so they can coach him up.

He was horrible in the second half
He was really good the first half, I was actually impressed. Then he took that hit on the bobbled snap where they reviewed targeting, and he was never the same after that. Decision making was bad, and he was definitely affected right after that hit if you go back and watch. Wonder if he maybe had a minor concussion of some kind that wasn't noticed.
