Those that attended the Rose Bowl. Would you do it again if you knew the score ahead of time?

I would.

I hope there are plenty of these in our future but I just may die tomorrow.

The pre-game and game were a lot of fun aside from that first quarter. And the fans we encountered over the weekend were awesome before and after the game. Saturday was a blast in Santa Monica - especially after the basketball game. Go Hawks!

I've already said this a handful of times but I was underwhelmed by the experience. It was an outdated stadium with horrible audio visual equipment. The lines to get in the stadium were dangerous and bordering on insanity. I suppose a win would have made it WAY more fun but I still had a much better time in Indy. Of course, we didn't have Stanford fans in Indy. They were the single worst bunch of college football fans I have ever been around. Bunch of jerks.

I'd still go again.

If you know the score of the game beforehand, it takes all of the fun out of it so I would say no. Half the fun is being there and thinking 'We're are the freaking Rose Bowl!' 'I wonder how the game is going to go tomorrow?' 'Is McCaffery really that good?' 'I wonder how much Iowa is going to outnumber Stanford?'

I agree, Indy was a much better experience. You can't beat the setup indy has, and the B1G really does it right. In indy, the party was everywhere, and you didn't have to have some special VIP pass or pay through the nose for an official party. I'd do indy again in a heartbeat, now let's get there!

To me, and I know many people are not like this, the game's the thing. Everything else pales in comparison. So absolutely not. If I had known the Hawkeyes weren't going to show up for the game, there's no way I would have.

Is this a trick question? Id seriously doubt anyone would have made the trip had they known Iowa would be down 35-0 at halftime

Would you go to agame against Ohio State in Kinnick if you knew we would be down 35-0 at half and lose 45-10?

Yes. For starters it is Los Angeles in December. Second, I am 24 years, this was the first time they have been to the Rose Bowl in my life

Man I hope we can make it back, I'm getting tickets when they are released in case, had a BLAST at the BIG title game besides the last 25 seconds of the game.

I didn't attend. Already had other plans, and honestly I know I had a much better time and better weather.
But if I could have gone, it would have been entirely for the game.
Outside of the nice climate, I don't find anything appealing about the LA metro area. Overcrowded with horrendous traffic.
As for the rose bowl itself, certainly I have some nostalgia about it from times past. And it's still a great bowl. However, I've now seen Iowa get their asses kicked there several times with this most recent one being the worst ass kicking of them all. And the game itself is no longer the pinnacle of college football that Iowa could achieve. The playoffs is where it's at. I would have taken a win in the B1G championship game and a trip to the semi-finals in miami or dallas over a rose bowl trip any day. And it's not even close.

No. I live in Phoenix, so I can go to Pasadena/LA on any given weekend. I visited the Rose Bowl Stadium a week before the Illini played USC, so I was familiar with the stadium and area.

If the Hawks lost a close game, I'd go. The way they lost? Naw. I don't even want to see the replay of the game. In my opinion, it was pretty bad watching the first quarter unfold.

I guess the first question is that if you were able to know the score in advance, couldn't you bet on the game and pay for your entire trip? So, this is so hypothetical! I think people's experiences are all different based on how you traveled, where you stayed and what else you did. I had a great time and did some wonderful things and had great family time. Again, it's all about what you are seeking and if was solely about the W or L, then yes, you would be disappointed. And yes, I am pissed that the last two Hawk first halves in Pasadena have been a combined 68-7 ass kicking!

We would go we had a blast the entire time we were there with the one exception being the game.

I would have, and have been saying so since it was. The entire trip was made for me when I saw "Iowa" in the endzone. No question about it.

BS. No way in hell anyone would have gone had they known beforehand how that game would go. You paid what you did just to see iowa painted in the endzone??

Not a chance. I would stay home and watch something else. I loved my trip but the game was really, really horrible. It's my own fault for thinking we would be competitive.

I saw alot of hawk fans all over the interwebz saying " people wasted their money." I just dont understand that line of thinking at all. but apparently i am in the minority

If I knew the score ahead of time....I would have stayed home to shop for yachts and jets and mansions.

I've said in another thread I would go back. Of I knew what the score was gonna be I would have tailgated through the game instead of paying for tickets though.

We got back last night and would go every year if given the chance. After the first play I turned to my wife and said I have seen this movie before.

It is and always will be my own personal Mecca.

Absolutely. The experience was worth way more than we paid for it. Wouldn't have changed a thing even if I had known the final score going in.

I know not all people are like this, but with the low expectations going into this season plus the 25 year Rose drought, just getting to go to the Rose Bowl was worth it to me. The tailgating before the game felt like a celebration, like Iowa had already won just for being there. That is not a loser's mentality but an appreciation for this team and what it had accomplished.

No you aren't. The poor, lazy, and negative people are in the minority on this topic.

I also wish we had been competitive, but nobody should spend money to go to a game and expect or feel entitled to any particular result. If you do, especially in college football, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

I made it all about the game in 1986 when Ronnie Harmon fumbled our chances away. I told myself if I came again, I would come with a different attitude. I did exactly that this year. My wife and I brought our son, both our daughters and boyfriend of one of the daughters. We had a great trip, only bummer was the game. We went to Manhattan Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguana Beach and toured the Midway in San Diego. We walked the walk of fame in Hollywood, partied with other Hawk fans at the USS Iowa and spent the day after the game at the Santa Monica Pier and Muscle Beach. Even the Rose Bowl day was a good experience as we parked near the famous Rose Bowl sign at 4:30am and walked back up to Pasadena for the parade. There was electricity in the air as we walked the parade route until we reached our grandstand seats. Hawkeye fans were everywhere and the parade was impressive. We got back to the car in time for some incredible tailgating with fellow Hawk fans as members of the Alumni band roamed the lot playing "in heaven there is no beer" and the Iowa fight song while hundreds joined in. I went to the game thinking the Hawks would probably lose but hoping for a victory. The real disappointment was in how poorly the Hawks played but by the middle of the 3rd quarter it was apparent that there would be no miraculous comeback and our family group decided we would cheer till the end and then honor this team's season of accomplishments by clapping and cheering as they left the field for the last time this year.
It was an expensive trip but worth every penny and I would do it again in a heartbeat just for the great family memories we were able to make.

No. I only went for the game really. Wanted to see a Rose Bowl win.

It does not bother me that they lost, but that they didn't show up.

I would.

I also would definitely go again. Despite the way the game turned out, it was a great experience of Hawkeye Pride and the Rose Bowl is the greatest venue and coolest location of all the Bowls. I hope I get to see us win a Rose Bowl game someday !

Of course not, if I knew the score ahead of time I'd go to Vegas instead and make enough money to buy the Hawks some of them there 5* recruits!

I'm neither lazy nor a negative person. And I'm far from being poor.

Yet, getting curb-stomped by Stanford, having the Rose Bowl interview Tom Arnold on the sidelines as being the "face" of Iowa (compared to Condoleeza Rice for Stanford) and then watching the Stanford band cow tip and stereotype Iowa and its population didn't exactly leave me with a "wow .... what a great Rose Bowl stadium experience." So, no, had I known in advance, I wouldn't have gone to the game.

That written, I'll drop the necessary cash to make another Rose Bowl trip if Iowa plays in the game again. I'd really like to purge this last experience with something a bit more positive.

For this year's Rose Bowl, first in 25 years, yes. If they went back within the next few years, and I knew the performance would be the same as it was this year, then no.

Outside of the nice climate, I don't find anything appealing about the LA metro area. Overcrowded with horrendous traffic.
We never really encountered any bad traffic and we put over 300 miles on the rental car in 3 days. I didn't think it was bad anyways. We used the Waze app and I had my co-pilot navigate for me. The only time we got stuck in traffic was when we left the Rose Bowl Thursday night and we tried to go thru old town Pasadena. That was a mess with people getting ready for the parade.

After being there I would agree with you that there really isn't a reason to go to LA outside of the Rose Bowl.

BS. No way in hell anyone would have gone had they known beforehand how that game would go. You paid what you did just to see iowa painted in the endzone??

First, I paid $1401.36 to go. So not that much.

Second, my endzone comment was a term of art to indicate "to see Iowa in the Rose Bowl".

Third, life is about more than the results of a football game.

To each his, own, but you are wrong about me not going, knowing what was coming in the game.

This was the motivation for my post. Definitely not a waste of money and a great experience. If only I could blank out that first quarter. And the stupid band.
