Thumbs up to the crowd today

That's the loudest I remember the crowd being for a long long time. They rivaled Hiltons atmosphere today. Only wished the D would have give that kind of intensity.
Awesome atmosphere. Best crowd I've been to since Dayton was the home team.
Iowa needs to figure out how to have this every game or at the very least every B1G game. A consistent top 25 ranking would be a great start.

It was great... wish they'd market all games like the NIT. Totally different overall fan set and vibe. Go for atmosphere & attendance over coin.

Great crowd overall. Seemed to flatline when the Hawks were down 9 late, but it came back late. Definitely more like the Dayton crowd and more like the important Big Ten games 2004-2006.

So how was this marketed differently? Did everybody have equal shots at tix? Meaning long term but quiet ST holders didn't have an advantage.

There was an advantage to STs but you could request sections. We ended up sitting 3 rows lower. I like the price points of $20 adult, $5 kid tickets. Yep less revenue but I think you make it up indirectly and also expose the next generation of fans to games by providing cheap youth ticks.

Maybe you do all games like this with the ST being a PSL 'light' that gives you initial buy for each game. The PSL cost is less than a season ticket and could be price tiered also for certain sections. After a time limit it goes to anyone else.

Just spit balling but the NIT approach seems right.

I don't have the answer for this one, but everyone needs to realize it is a little easier to sell tickets for a 4pm Sunday afternoon game when it is 60 and sunny out than asking people to drive X number of miles and bring their kids to games at random times on weeknights in the dead of winter.

All that said, I do know that easier access to ice cream would be a good start.

I know this gets talked about every game on here but having the rich, silver fox donors sit in the first 10 rows is a mistake. I understand they're important to the financial aspect of the program but they barely move during the games. Find another way to reward them for their contributions because this arena needs the students closer to the action. If they dont show up, sell those as standing room only tickets.

For the NIT games, we were able to get tickets in row 10 for the first game and row 6 for today and it was full of young families screaming and yelling. It was awesome down there and having access to $5 youth tickets makes it affordable to take the whole family.

Maybe a compromise where they get only one side and the students wrap 3/4 of the around from end to end. The students' side would be the one behind the benches and shown on television. I'm a long time season ticket holder and it's a joy to be able to stand up and cheer without the killjoys there to ruin it for you.

Looked and sounded solid. Need that support all the time.

Yet we beat Iowa State, Purdue, Indiana and Michigan with nothing but " blue hairs " in the stands. Go figure. :p:p:p:p:p:p:p
Oh, I thought we were talking about why the crowd was louder during the NIT than any other home game this year and not about teams we beat despite the worst home court advantage in the conference.

I think it's price point. For my family of 3, it was only $45 per game. For regular season I think it's like $74.

For 20 games or so... it's a big commitment. More affordable ticket packages (weekend, weeknight, group certain games together, etc.)

I don't know the correct way of putting this but there is a group of older individuals (not all) that don't add much to the atmosphere for a variety of reasons. There is also not a MASSIVE hole left by the worthless student section for these games.

Tickets are only $20 which is appealing for fans. Better tickets are more readily available. I don't know what it is about NIT game but fans are not discouraged by this tournament. I would just love to see carver alive like that for more regular season games.

Music>band

Arena full of youth, as kids tickets were only $5. Great way to build a new generation of Hawk fans.
Really? The next women's NIT game this Thursday night will cost $9 for kids. I must protest against the discrimination against male athletes!

I was in the seats for both tonight and Michigan and the atmosphere was completely different.

Weather and ticket pricing I would say are the biggest factors.

This game times are what are critical. Iowa always seems to get the 8pm slot during the regular season. I realize TV drives the game times. But for 8pm tips, i would say the U of Iowa should offer the 20 dollar tix to get the locals to go and get as many butts in the seats as possible.

I think they need to condense the "season ticket" holder sections down and give more to GA. Also move the students use the old student section as GA seating as well. The crowd sounded loud today and on Wednesday as well.
