Hawks vs Huskers Tuesday night

They might not want Fran

PMAC is doing better without his Father coaching him. Jack wanted to leave Iowa City even before his driving incident and maybe he doesn't really want Dad to coach him. Someone posted that Fran would go to Indy and then get a part time gig for the Big10 Network like other retired coaches have done. They could do that for 1 year while Fran looks for another situation to be his retirement job. Fran looks to me to be the type of person that wants to coach more years and also try to mentor his boys.

My guess is we have Fran for this year and maybe next. Seems like some type of negotiated buyout will be done. I don't think Fran can get another P5 job that pays $3 million/yr because of his age and his career resume doesn't have any NCAA tournament success. Mid majors would take Fran at a pay cut. I doubt Fran gives us a parting gift like Davis did with a Sweet16 run, but sure I would take it and say thanks.

He adapted to the no middle defense. Even with mediocre talent it has made Nebraska highly effective. I don’t know why more coaches aren’t using it because it works. You don’t even need elite athletes. It simplifies rotations and makes non ball handlers a liability.
THanks! What would we call Fran's defense?

The middle defense in basketball is a defensive strategy that aims to limit drives and easy baskets by pushing play to the sidelines. The goal is to build an impenetrable wall around the middle of the court.

Here are some tips for defending the middle in basketball:
  • Close out with an inside hand: Shade the offensive player's inside shoulder to force them away from the middle.

  • Divide the court into zones: Break the court into thirds, with the middle third known as the chest zone.

  • Rotate precisely: Precise rotations can lead to turnovers.

  • Use backside defenders: Backside defenders can step up to tag and bump at a moment's notice.

  • Ice ball screens: Icing ball screens can help build an impenetrable wall around the middle.

The center is the tallest player on the team and plays near the basket. On defense, the center tries to block opponents' shots and rebound their misses.

Does this team take it personally and find a way to put this last game behind them… Students are still on break I believe small crowd… This game could define the season one way or another. Fred has his team playing great D and they have 3 guys 6-10 and taller.
A while back, Michigan State beat Nebraska about as bad as Wisconsin just beat Iowa. Ohio State has lost two games by 40-plus. One game, big win or big loss, doesn't matter much in a long college basketball season. Iowa's futility @ Wisconsin should have nothing to do with what happens tonight.

Nebby beat Bethune-Cookman 63-58, lost to Michigan State 89-52, and beat UCLA 66-58. Sometimes Nebraska is good. Sometimes Nebraska is not so good. Pretty much like most teams in the BIG. If Iowa plays hard and shoots well, they probably win. If not . . .
Agree, just because Iowa fell apart at Wisconsin doesn't mean that's going to happen regularly now.

We've seen Fran teams get humiliated for lack of defense quite frequently in the early parts of the conference season only to come back and look decent shortly after.

I'm still expecting this to be the typical Fran bubble team, but hopefully the last one.
