Tim Lester and Kirk Ferentz inept game planning

Iowa's game plan against Nebraska is different than other teams. Iowa knows that they are eventually going to mess up and hand them opportunities to win the game. They do it every year.

That is why they continued to pound the ball unsuccessfully knowing they were playing field position.

However, when the original game plan was not working at all, why did they not have an alternative game plan which involved passing. Jackson looks like a large improvement over McNamara.
Because he isn't. Stratton did an amazing job to make some plays and not commit any critical errors while operating a limited offense with minimal practice reps, but the reason he was a 4th string walk-on is not some massive misevaluation by our coaches. He's not going to suddenly be able to sling the ball all over the field.

Conditions dictated game plan on Friday.
In the end this game had a single metric that mattered: scoreboard.

With a 4th string walk on at QB , 20mph winds, single digit windchills, Hawks were not going to suddenly become air Iowa.
Having an AA rb made this a simple game plan.

Stratton has shown the ability to throw a four yard out pass and a four yard pass to the TE and that's about it. Against Nebraska they batted that down four times and got a couple sacks. The fact he managed the 18 yard completion to Gill over the middle two plays before Kaleb's TD was really a complete and pleasant surprise. But he didn't turn it over and that helped them win the game. And he also didn't run because he probably would've gotten hurt and we had no one left to play QB.

Iowa has a horrible passing game. It’s 10x worse when you only throw the ball when the other team knows you have to. No first down throws, no play action, Kirk coaches terrified.

Honestly, with the passing game we have, wouldn’t you be smarter to play it close to the vest?
Iowa’s passing game creates a unique “Catch-22”…without a throwing QB you don’t get receivers and without receivers it is hard to attract throwing QBs…what’s a mother to do?
