Northern fishing has been good on tip ups. Pan fishing has been a little slow. Hoping to get into some crappie today. Anyone else been out?

Herky Jr. and I are headed up to Upper Red Lake in a week for some walleyes and hopefully some big northern. Can't wait!

I have been out a few times. Our best day was on Clear Lake. We caught over 100 yellow bass in a few hours between 6 of us. We also caught some stripers and some small walleye and perch.

I haven't fished exclusively for walleye yet, but I will. 6 of us are heading to Devils Lake for perch and walleye the first week in March. Unfortunately we couldn't do Lake Erie this year, due to no ice, but we will go out there the next chance we get. Unbelievable walleye fishery.

Honestly, I do not like ice fishing. I would much rather fish open water, but obviously that isn't an option, unless I fish Red Wing. I will devout as much of my time as I can in Red Wing this spring. One of these times it will be my turn to catch a 10# walleye.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are Ice fishing... Wouldn't you be hoping they get into you?

We've been talking about going up to Devil's Lake some year, maybe even taking the train from St. Paul. So I'll be curious to hear how it is.

Cadet,

How many boats are on Red Wing this time of year? Never been on it during the winter but when I've been there during the fall you can practically walk across the dam side of the fork stepping from boat to boat. Amazing how many eyes and sauger come out of there even with the kind of pressure it sees.

This time of year it depends on the weather. If it gets above freezing there can easily be a dozen boats on a weekday. A weekend above freezing could see three dozen boats. Usually the night bite is starting to heat up, but right now one of the reactors is shut down so the water temps are a few degrees colder than normal and the bite is slow. Lots of good eaters, but the big fish don't show up in numbers until March. I really like night fishing by the dam. We have pretty good luck so that helps.

If it at least warms up into the teens by Sunday, we will head over to the St. Croix River for crappie, and we'll have a line out to see if a sturgeon swims by as well. They've extended the sturgeon fishing season into the winter now and there are some real river monsters in there.

Slayed the crappies during early ice on a hidden little gem lake up here that I live by in the cities. Well it was a hidden gem until they talked about it on a radio show. Went from 6 shacks to 50 in one day. Bite has slowed way down now though. They're still marking on the vexi. Just not biting.

Ah yyaw, yah betcha. Goowd over on Lake Lahkoootah swell.

Our group has a permanent shack on one lake and 2 portables that we move around.

Never been ice fishing. In a way, it freaks me out sitting in a warm shed, on the ice with a hole in it. I know it's safe, but it's like trying to understand that a bumblebee isn't suppose to fly, but it does.
