All-inclusive resorts? Also, south of the border would American dollars be accepted or does it need to be exchanged prior?

You should be getting about 11 or 12/1 Pesos to a USD, so hell yes USD's are accepted and gladly. Tipping at AI's is up to the individual. If we get particularly good service from bar and wait staff, we make sure to tip. Last year at an AI we gave a drink service gal a $10 and she was pretty much on us every 5 minutes or so.

You should be getting a much better conversion rate than 11 or 12 (and will from an ATM), I would recommend just using your debit card at an ATM in the airport before leaving then ask the front desk of the resort to break the bills into small change for tipping.

$10 is all it takes to have the local bartender all over you? Thanks for the advice!

yea, tipping is often officially discouraged, but a 10 spot at the beginning of the day will help significantly. By the end of the week I wasn't even looking at the menu in the restaurant, I just told them what I wanted and they made it happen.

A waiter at a Riviera Maya resort climbed a coconut palm, knocked 6 coconuts down, and made drinks out of them by cutting the top off and mixing the drink inside the coconut. It was incredible. We'd already paid $2,500 for the week, what was another $70-100 to make them want to serve you more? I mean...the dude picked a coconut and made a drink out of it for us! awesome.

Yep, you are correct. Looks to be 16.75+/- which is more than the 11 or 12 we got last Feb.

Like previous posters have said, tip and the wait staff will bend over backwards for you. Make it rain bro.

It is usually discouraged but I would just tip 10-20 at the start of the drinking binge and they would go out of their way to make sure we were taken care of before others.

It depends upon the type of ending you experience after the massage.

If he takes care of you; you take care of him.

We went down for a buddies wedding in Jamaica. I tipped the bar tender 20 dollars the first night and I didn't wait for a drink the rest of the trip. We had a blast and the she was working both the main bar and swim up bar while we were there. So that helped me out a bunch!

Of course I was way to hung over to enjoy the wedding and actually got sick during it. had to leave during it (the brides parents were not happy with us). Oh well good times.

Don't suppose you did a solid for your HROT brothers and got a pic did you?
:)

We always get to know our servers throughout the week and ask them halfway through our trip if they are working through the weekend. We plan it out to them tip $10-20 for the bartenders, waitstaff or maids at the end of our trip or if it's their last day.

In Playa Del Carmen, there is no need to exchange $$. As for tipping, even a small tip will get you great service.
