To protect and serve

Yes, it’s an accident, for sure. But the question is should the officers have fired in the first place? I don’t know. It’s a shitty situation, and I’m guessing if the 14-year-old girl was related to you, you’d be singing a much different tune than, oops, the cops goofed.
The good thing is that the people that could hear this case in court aren’t family members either. Neither will the judge.

This could have all been avoided if the 24 year old male wasn't being a criminal. Sucks this happened for the young lady and her family but every action has a reaction. This death is on the loser criminal hands not the police who were protecting and serving.

Hot take Simp.

Well they just realized the video...that cop is
so screwed.

At no point does he say police stop.
At no point does the officer consider anything different.
He ignores other officer commands to hold up.
The rifle cop just sees him walking between aisles and fires three shots without considering anything around him.

How the F did he pass the academy?

So explain how they were to know if there was someone behind a wall?
Because your trained to assume someone is?

Have you ever fired a gun before let alone done police training. This is 101 stuff. Especially when the suspect isn't actively shooting and standing in front of a dressing room or closet.

Watch the video and tell me that was a good shoot when the cops say he has a tube not a gun, when rhe office gives no commands and fired with no regard with anything around. Hell I think he shoots the guy in the back to start.

It'd a bad shoot on so many levels and the cops through his indifference is guilty of manslaughter. But if you want to argue argue neglect is so bad it rises to murder I wouldn't fight you on it.

The police had already announced their presence.
You don't know he didn't consider anything else.
He took the lead and they were on him, and he slowed down so they could stay connected.
Again...you don't know that.

This is all bs.

You don't announce your presence far away and call it good. That why when they knock on your door they didn't first yell police at the end of your driveway and call it good to go. It the same reason why even after a chase for miles with flashing lights when police get out of the car they yell for the suspect that they are police get on the ground. You can't assume the guy you want to detain heard you from across a store. Such a stupid claim.

I do know he considered nothing else. It's all on tape. He arrives grabs the rifle goes to the front of the line is told he has no gun, continues, ignores calls to slow down and then shoots the second he sees him. To argue be considered something else is such a dumb claim.

He didn't slow down. If he did his fellow officer wouldn't have told him more than 10 times including up to the moment he turns the corner to shoot the suspect without breaking stride. To argue he did is such a dumb claim.

Your post is flat out dumb and just an attempt to defend the terrible actions by the cop. We get it, it's your stichk to just be a contrarian but maybe just sit this one out since clearly you are blind and cant watch the video. You post is well...dumb.

So little reality in this it is not worth responding to in detail.

Lapd use of force manual...

Use of Force – Deadly. It is the policy of this Department that officers shall use deadly force upon another person only when the officer reasonably believes, based on the totality of circumstances, that such force is necessary for either of the following reasons:

• To defend against an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury to the officer or to another person; or • To apprehend a fleeing person for any felony that threatened or resulted in death or serious bodily injury, if the officer reasonably believes that the person will cause death or serious bodily injury to another unless immediately apprehended.

In determining whether deadly force is necessary, officers shall evaluate each situation in light of the particular circumstances of each case and shall use other available resources and techniques if reasonably safe and feasible. Before discharging a firearm, officers shall consider their surroundings and potential risks to bystanders to the extent reasonable under the circumstances.

What is your level of education, training and experience in such matters?

If the LAPD, or whatever entity that's responsible for paying out a settlement is smart they will go to the family very, very soon with an overly generous settlement.
I get that the officers were told that shots were fired. The people calling in were confused. Most people would get confused over those slapping sounds you hear in the video as the man swings the bike lock. But, a person is dead who shouldn't be dead. Settle this quickly and honestly share all information. Releasing some video immediately was a good first step.

So eager to shoot. The victim was safe. The bad guy was surrounded by several armed swat members. But still had to kill. Damn the consequences.

Well…to pray and spray in LAPDs case.

14 year girl old killed while lapd shoots assault suspect inside Burlington coat factory.

It was a tragic accident. Do you get this worked up about all the shootings in Chicago? As stated earlier this death is on the loser criminal hands not the police

I mean, to plays devils advocate a bit here....the girl was fine until the cops showed up. They showed up and now she's dead. Is that "protecting and serving?"

Actually she and her mother were cowering in fear in one of the fitting rooms as a madman was hacking people with a lock on a chain. Blood was everywhere, the insane person with the weapon was trying to elude police when they fired.

My bad if a Pepsi; but just saw this on CNN . Had forgotten all about this case and quite surprised by the decision, especially given the cop allegedly had been sanctioned before (linked 2nd article from the comments section).

If you're surprised you haven't been paying attention.

Well - I wouldn’t have been all that surprised in 2021; but these days seems more of these are being charged, and often times seem to be a stretch. And in all fairness, I live in MN where it seems to happen a decent amount and almost all are charged. The most recent is getting a lot of press, at least local press

There's almost never a penalty for killing people if you have a badge.
These guys got acquitted, were paid $1.5 million to leave their jobs, then were hired by a neighboring department.

Fair. And not arguing with you, just seems like a case could have been made here if cities/states are serious about holding police responsible in order to reform. I’m not saying I think this cop should have been charged as I tend to lean to lean pro-cop in these situations (obviously not always), just surprised based on recent charges I’ve seen over the last couple years. Again, speaking mostly of MN here, so clearly not a representation of other states.

The LAPD is untouchable. The Sheriff's office is worse.
