That's a pretty naive take. Natalie fired the first shots in 2002 about Toby's song Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (the song he wrote after the death of Keith's veteran father and the September 11, 2001 attacks). She publicly went on the offense by calling the song, "...ignorant, and it makes country music sound ignorant" "I hate it!"
The following year she made public comments about the President while in another country on tour. After that it just got petty and stupid between BOTH of them (yes, both sides). Toby started displaying a fake photo of her next to Saddam Hussein at his concerts while Natalie was out wearing a t-shirt with the letters "F.U.T.K.". Heck, she wore that onstage at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Natalie clearly didn't understand her audience. I've commented on here before that Toby was one of the first to really to understand his base and milk it for all it's worth.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree with Toby, just that he's not "singlehandedly" responsible for the demise of the Dixie Chicks.

What makes you guys think he is a trumpster? I've never seen him make any comments indicating such; most of the public comments he's made are fairly neutral and indicate he doesn't think highly of the choices our two major parties have put up the last couple of elections
The guy I used to work for LOOOVED Toby Kieth. Every time we were in Vegas for trade shows we ate dinner at the Toby Keith bar every. single. night. Anyway, that's my Toby Kieth memory.
You know it doesn’t even matter. He’s a person first and he’s going through something terrible. He’s got money and fame, sure. But even if he doesn’t align with you politically I don’t recall him being a monster, not that I know the man. We’re all vulnerable in the end

I don't care about his politics. It gets exhausting worrying about entertainers' politics when judging their creative content. And I do like some of his music. But I always thought he had to be a pretty insecure guy to use his fame and talent writing a song rubbing his success in the face of some girl that he apparently held a grudge against because he had a crush on her in high school and she didn't reciprocate it. I'm assuming that "How Do You Like Me Now?" is autobiographical, and every time I hear it I think how pathetic it is for a grown man to still be butt hurt because some girl in high school that he liked didn't like him back.
Awful disease. Lost my Dad to it a few years ago, he was only 63. The pain and suffering is immense. How we haven't cured this shit by now is beyond comprehension.

With that said, I don't know anything about ol Toby Keith, not a country music fan. But I do know cancer sucks, so that's shitty. Had a friend pass away in 2020 from stomach cancer. It's not good.
We tend to try and repress/replace those memories with something unrealistically pleasurable.
