So I was listening to an interview with Brad Stevens and he brought up how Todd Lickliter taught him the most about coaching. Also heard an interview earlier this year with another coach (I think it was maybe Chris Lowery) on the Doug Gottlieb show who said Lickliter was the smartest coach he knew and Gottlieb echoed how many people in basketball circles agree. They talked in length about how great he was in fact.
That being said, obviously thrilled with the Fran era, but any guesses as to why the Lickliter hire ended up being so bad? Coaching hires have always been an interest of mine so I have always wondered. The guy is clearly admired (and then some) by many who have been around him. Was it just a bad fit or did he just have a great staff around him at Butler?
I'm sure this has probably been discussed in the past but with the interview I listened to it got me thinking about it. Btw, Brad Stevens is one hell of a coach and leader.
