I used to have season tickets but I haven't been to Carver since the 2012 Olympic Trials. It was easier being a wrestling fanatic when I was single and the Hawkeyes were winning NCAA Championships. Now, it feels like my best friend ran off with my wife and they have taken up living in State College, PA! I was planning on a trip to Iowa City for the Big Tens but now I'm staying home. The entertainment value of Iowa wrestling has slowly lost its appeal.

It's always easier to stick by a winner. But if you feel so strongly about it...

I think you can see evidence of what you suspect down the thread a ways. . . . Two Big Tens tickets for sale, as of about 20 minutes ago. . . .

Good! I've got a hotel room but no tickets...and I do want to go. Please let me know if you're interested in selling your tix at a discount. Thank you. :)

There is always the WWE for your entertainment value. I hear they even do cute little story lines. It's more up your alley.

Shove on and find a new team to cheer for.

I am trying to find a way to get to the bigs this year. It is still a big deal for us sports fans. If the only reason you watch wrestling is to see the Hawks win, then maybe your enthusiasm is a bit squashed this year. However, if you love to watch wrestling, then the Bigs is the place to be.

You and your fair weather fandom won't be missed. If one dual is enough to set you off then you really should just stay home

I don't think the OP is sore because of one loss. I think it is the lack of "fight" that was on display. This team needs to gain back it's mojo and regain the "edge" that we had for 20 years. Eye of the Tiger baby... We should be coming on strong and dominating everyone in our way right now. We've done great beating up on bad teams this year.

This is the problem, and has been for some time. Cooper at least went down swinging. But some of the guys look like they're on Prozac. With the exception of OSU meets, watching Iowa wrestle the last few years has not been much fun.

Have we become this spoiled in Iowa wrestling that one dual meet loss means the season is over? A (now) 16-1 record and (previous) #2 ranking, and a win over (then) #1 Okie State at the beginning of the year ... and now ... we lose a meet to a very good NC State team in a match where each team won 5 matches ... but yet the season is all of a sudden a wash?

I understand being disappointed Iowa lost at home. I understand we've seen a similar endings in recent seasons (i.e. last year when Missouri beat us) ... I just don't understand the sky is falling mentality some fans take on ... I am not specifically referring to or knocking the OP ... I am talking (some) fans in general on the message board ... We sound like Nebraska football fans :)

Iowa wrestling is still a top 5 program ... Yes, I would love to see us dominate like we did in the past ... but those days are over ... There is simply more parity now in college wrestling ... Schools like Missouri ... Like NC State ... And of course, we have Cael ... a guy who has so many blue chippers they're falling out of the locker room ...

Outside of Cael ... is there really someone out there we think would be a better coach than Brands? I personally can't think of anyone ... I know we want and expect national titles at Iowa ... Maybe not every year ... but at least every few years ... I get it ... I just think sometimes we need to do that reality check and realize the playing field has changed ...

Sounds like a Husker football fan to me!

I have been a Hawkeye wrestling fan for over 40 years, but last night's loss hit me harder than almost any other I've ever seen. I haven't given up, but seeing no fight whatsoever from so many guys, and seeing two probable AAs possibly injured, just took the wind out of this season. I hope T&T and the team use this as motivation, and they turn this around and finally peak in March (for the first time in many, many years), but my enthusiasm for this season has faded. I will always be a Hawk fan, but that fiasco last night really hurt.

Very well said, TNT. Careful, though -- the "true fans" will be on your tail in no time. Like clockwork.

You mean dominating every team "we" wrestled the entire year, minus last night against #4? Scoring the biggest margin of victory since, what, 1990?

Some of you should be basketball fans as well, just as fickle and annoying.

You mean dominating Cornell College, Indiana, a broken-down Northwestern? Pretty impressive...

You are ignoring the obvious, they beat everyone they wrestled, including Oklahoma State. NC State beat Oklahoma State as well, and it was still up to one match.

Nobody wanted to wrestle Ohio State and Penn State more than Iowa, the wrestlers, the coaches and their fans.

Loser talk.

The problem is, all the teams we dominated were not good teams. We have faced 3 top 10 teams this year and lost to 1, squeezed by 1 and had a marginal win against the last one. We have not dominated a single top 10 team.

Real talk, they hold this tournament in Iowa City every 14 years now. How can you not get excited about that fact alone.

I don't like Iowa's chances at all to win the B1G, but just attending will be well worth it.

B1G's is like Nationals without the riff-raff. I wouldn't miss it.

Carver will be sold out. They don't need the skeptical or disheartened. I will be there and not buying into the Lions assured of any trophy. There are way too many good wrestlers in this tournament. Go Hawks.

The loss is obviously disappointing. Most here feel it emotionally and each one reacts in their own way to their feelings about it.

The rule is when someone takes you down............you get up and go take them down and keep taking them down and keep fighting till the match is over. Don't quit, don't give up. Wrestling is all about continuing to wrestle till the whistle blows. Give it your all.

Iowa likely won't win Big10 or NCAA, but you still have the opportunity to show your support and cheer for those guys that will try their hardest and achieve the most they are capable of. Gilman, Clark Sorensen, Burak, and all the rest need your support. Go and enjoy their journey.
