Tony Perkins Video Highlights

I like his motor, and that's something you cannot teach. It's the same thing that made me think Baer might contribute at Iowa. If he plays with good BBall IQ, and shoots a decent % he might become pretty good.

Did not go left once in those highlights.

Way behind Joey T and CJF at the same stage of career.

Fortunately, has at least two more seasons to develop before any real time is needed from Norman Bates.

I think the “ going left” comment is not accurate. Perkins definitely drove more to the right side in this single video but calling him limited in the scoring department is just outright inaccurate.
Dude is the definition of a scorer... he gains any size and conditioning and he could blow up. As he is he will get Iowa some buckets.

He went to the left three times in those clips but I agree, he has to develop that part of his game or he will get shutdown fairly easily.

Early part of the video had ugly 3pt shot form but the shots went in. A lot of kicking out of the legs. Then it got better but he was still jumping forward a lot, he would be jumping into good Big Ten defenders with that style. Then by the end got much better and darn near looked pretty. I wonder if the highlights were in chronological order. If so you can see a marked improvement in the form of his shots that made the highlights.

But he shows an athleticism that we absolutely need. I like the picking off the lazy swing passes up top that Marble and White used to feast off of a few years ago.

He finishes left less than 30 seconds into the video, did you even watch it? Also at the 3:20 mark. He actually went to the left many times, only to finish with a right-hand flush. Are you kidding me, this is the kind of athlete that Iowa fans are usually upset that we don't get...the kid that comes in on those early season mid-major teams that we play, and makes us look bad.

His body and movements are very reminiscent of Jimmy Butler (don't overreact). I am already a huge fan. I think we are really going to like Tony!

Welcome aboard, young man.

Go Hawks!

I love this tape. I said it in an earlier thread that he reminds me of Kenny Arnold, which is high praise from me (I think Kenny was one of the most underrated players I have seen at Iowa). Good size, tough, aware, seems to have a complete all-round game, and contrary to what some others said, uses either hand to finish. He takes a while to get his shot off, but because he isn't afraid to take it to the basket and doesn't mind contact, that can work for him. He isn't ultra-quick, but he shows the ability to burst and elevate when he needs to. Seems like a very nice complement to JoeT and CJF.

Ok, looks bigger than 6'4" and I've seen reports that he's only 6'3", don't know. His left hand needs work at least from the video. His shot looks a little low but that can be worked on. He does look pretty athletic and we sorely need that. Looks like he could be an important player for us in a couple of years.

I know if is a highlight video, but I like it! If he can defend then I'll be very happy with this find of Fran's.

Anyone know what he shoots from 3pt land? If he can hit the 3 at a decent clip, he'll be just fine for the Hawks.

I wish they would show some knockdown defense in some of their highlights.

Appears like he can get up but his first step isn’t the quickest in the world, being 6’4” and long helps out. If he had a bit more lateral quickness or a better first step he would certainly be wanted by many more high level programs. Potential diamond in the rough depending on how he develops.

I'd have him emphasize improving his quickness and explosiveness over the summer.

Perkins’ biggest room for improvement is not explosiveness and quickness. In those regards, Iowa hasn’t had a player like him at guard in a while. Shooting consistency and decision-making have held him back. He’s actually a much better outside shooter than he was a couple years ago when he basically didn’t do that and relied on his athletic ability to get to the hoop. So, I like his learning trajectory there. Also, think his being played now just at SG vs PG earlier may simplify things for him and up the outside shooting %.
