Is Thelwell an upgrade over T. Perkins?

Not the same position. Perkins is not a primary ball handler pg. Tony was inconsistent. When he was good he could be awesome. Then he'd disappear for games at a time. It was a good move for him to go elsewhere for the cash.

Thelwell so far looks like a good one year buy at pg.

But I agree about Dix. I had heard rumors that Creighton was knocking on his door this past off-season. Creighton is a small school but they have a very competitive NIL fund. Take this with a grain of salt, but Creighton's fan posters claim Ryan Kalkbrenner received around 7 figures to return to school this year.

We ain't competing with that. . .
I believe that the South Dakota HC was "recruiting" Dix in the handshake line the other night. Probably letting him know that if he gets homesick and wants to play closer to home, he has a spot for him.

He's starting to win me over. He seems to be a steady contributor. I like that opposed to the hot and cold type player Tony could be.
It helps Iowa doesn't have to lean on Drew to be the #1 or #2 scorer. Drew was a terror with on ball defense tonight. Even with Dix out Drew doesn't have to force 10+ shots like Tony would have to; he doesn't have to force any shots.

Loving Thelwell but let's not get carried away. He has yet to play against Big Ten competition.

At this point, I'm taking Perk no doubt. By the end of the season, who knows.

I mean wasn't Perk 2nd or 3rd team all Big Ten his Jr year? Not sure why he seems to get so much hate around here now. Guy was a very solid player for us.

I thought he was a head case. He could play lights out one game & disappear for 3 or 4 games at a time. Very frustrating.

I don't think he was a head case, just a guy with a very inconsistent outside shot. As a fellow player who is a bucket one night and can't hit the broadside of a barn the next, I can sympathize with him. Also, in case anyone is going to respond with some variation of "well then just take it to the basket then", some teams take that away by getting back in transition and packing the paint against our half court offense.

Tony gave us multiple good seasons so I extend him some grace and don't attribute his offensive inconsistency to him simply mentally checking out or quitting on his team.

Yep! There were a bunch of jerks hassling him on Twitter/Instagram last year too. And we wonder why we can't recruit better players.
