Tony Perkins

Agreed, it's almost like you can tell going into the game the games JBo will be effective or not.

JBo will struggle with any team with quick, perimeter guards. Those are the games JBo should not play as much in lieu of Perkins, Joe T, and Ulis - and play off the ball more when he does. It's so obvious. He got destroyed against Gonzaga, IN, and IL. Heck, most of us can see it and we don't even coach for a living.

I thought Tony played very well tonight. There have been threads after every loss that someone different needs more minutes (Joe T, Keegan, Tony and a Ulis). I understand the frustration with losing, but coming into the season there were concerns that Fran would try to play too many players. That must not be the case any longer.

From Perkins first appearance to today he has shown massive growth.

I've stuck with JBo for a long time but found myself tonight thinking that's a blonde little Lick out there.

Hope he proves me wrong or sits more.

He has a spot. It isn't against all Americans like Sugg or Ayo. When Iowa plays teams with normal guards he is great.

upperclassman loyalty in minutes may have cost the Hawks a couple games.. with Indiana and Illinois seemed like the young guys would come in and just be way more effective and disruptive on D then then the first unit would come out and you could almost see the opposition licking their chops & breathing a sigh of relief.. Iowa has one the poorest starting defensive backcourts in the league & Fran knows it.. but he’s loyal to those guys.. so I guess it is what it is..

I’m really hoping and wishing down the stretch here after dropping two in a row we start to see players with a better defensive up side getting WAY more minutes as tournament time comes around because, with out saying names, a starter or two have shown they just can’t defend and can be easily negated offensively by any type of decent defender.. there has to be a time where winning takes the drivers seat, right? Bench guys like Tony P, Ulis, Joe T & Murray at the very least can really get after it and be scrappy and defend.

With CJ injured, now should be the time Perkins gets some run. He brings something to the floor nobody else does. Fran should’ve went to him in the first half when dosunmu was going off.

That's just stupid.

Comparing Iowa’s all time leading three point shooter to John Licklighter. Some people need to drop the crack pipe, set down their phones and spend some time thinking before posting! Jordan has his faults, but no one should be thinking he is not a power five division one player. You can debate his role on the team, but not that he is on the team.

You can add Ulis to this conversation too..... JBO is a legend at Iowa but he's hurting this team right now and needs to play on the second unit until he snaps out of his shooting slump, bedamn his assists.
. Not a shooting slump last night- put a quick guard on him to shut him down and then you hope either Weiss or CJ have an off night

I did not say JBo shouldn't be on the team or even that he shouldn't play. Just fewer minutes if he continues to struggle - putting it mildly.

The Lickliter remark was was just a response to how unathletic and ineffective - or detrimental - he can be. Iowa had eight turnovers and JBo had half of them.

JBo over his career has been a great shooter and an even better clutch shooter. He's been neither this year.

Again, hope he regains his form.

Jordan actually had two of the eight. JoeT had that many in half the minutes. Don't need to exaggerate to make your point.
My bad.

Found the team stats but was going off memory on the individual stats. Way off, guess I lumped something else - blow bys - in there too.

Fran is doing nothing to help Jbo. He has a guy in jersey once he crosses half court and can't separate. His shooting % isn't going to get better if he doesn't get better looks. He isn't getting better looks without a dribble drive threat on the court. Is Fran capable of making adjustments? Not holding my breath. Teams aren't letting Jbo dribble up to the 3 point line and get a clean look---this only happens in Fran's mind.

Don’t forget Murray!
Perkins is a lot like Keegan in that you can see he belongs out there. Same with Ulis in his limited time, these guys offer something and they're not scared. The Eye Test is good on these 3 Freshman early on in their careers.

Hes closer to little lick on the athletic spectrum than he is to a guy like Dosomu.

When did I compare Jordan to Ayo? Keegan struggled against Ayo on defense. Does this mean Keegan is not athletic? No, all players have different levels and types of athleticism as you mention. Jordan never had the same type of quickness or explosion as Ayo prior to his surgeries and did not become the six million dollar man after two hip surgeries. Jordan has the athleticism to be a threat to make a shot once he crosses over the half court line. John Licklighter had none of this athleticism.

This is exactly right....when the opponent has a quick guard that gets in JBO's space the entire time he is taken out of his offense...he struggles bringing the ball up, etc....SO, maybe Fran should do what he did with Matt Gattens his senior year. Just run him relentlessly off of picks and through traffic to get open for a shot......while Luka is killing it inside and JW and hopefully CJ are are also spacing the floor.

Shooting is not athleticism.

Shooting is not athleticism.

So, is it your contention that it takes no athletic ability to be able to make shots from 20-30 feet at a 40-50% rate in a game against other “athletes”? If so, you have a very narrow definition of athleticism and we can agree to disagree.

Jump shooting falls under the skill category.

I just said athletic has nothing to do with shooting.
He is athletic, but the question in compared to whom.
Also partly our offensive scheme doesn't allow him to get his shot. I can agree to that.
