I would take a look at Anthony Grant. He had some shaky seasons when he was at Alabama, but he’s had a nice 8-year run at Dayton since then.

Takayo Siddle at UNC Wilmington is only 38 and has 4 consecutive 20 win seasons in just 5 years as a head coach. Was an assistant at NC State when they ripped off 3 consecutive 20 win seasons and then the Wolfpack dipped when he left for UNCW. His teams are generally around 150 in defensive efficiency and top 70 in rebounding rate over the past 3 years.

I think he’d be a good hire, Beth should reach out at least

We had one, but we didn't seem to be bitching about the NIL as much at the time

No he wasn't adequate because he did nothing to raise NIL, just went out and got himself extensions. He will be able to prove
his market value at his next job. Do you think he's get $3.5 million/yr like he was going to make at Iowa next year? I'll take the under.

There are several guys mentioned in the posts above who I could get excited about.

I mean, the first time someone mentioned Ben McCollum to me, I was like, "meh." But then I learned more, and I can see the potential. There's lots of guys like that.

An excellent coach from what I’ve seen and read. He’s a riser but you don’t want to take the cake out of the oven too soon!

I have stated this on more than one occasion....I don't care who Iowa hires (outside of Rick Pitino or Bruce Pearl, which ain't gonna happen), with the new, expanded B1G, Iowa will never be more than a middle of the pack program, if that. Yes, I am a bit of a pessimist, but there are too many very good basketball programs in the league now. Hell, we couldn't win a conference title when there were only ten teams and now we think we should be winning one when there are eighteen teams?!? Good luck with that!

So, do you think Purdue has some sort of built in advantages we don’t have? Or do they just have the right coach?

If you really believe that the program is in full zombie mode due to the underfunded NIL this is they type of hire we will get. Swing for the fence with an unproven guy that has done something with very little and see where you at in 3 years.

This shouldn’t be hard. You go after BM. Don't have to invest much in a buyout and should be a cheaper contract than a bigger name, saving money for putting into the team.

NIL will come with excitement in the program, which comes with wins. You need a coach that can win games without having the best talent on the floor to build that excitement and then improve NIL to buy better talent in the future. How about a guy that won his mid-major conference in his first year with a bunch of D2 transfers? A guy that has won several national titles at a lower level and has already shown an ability to build a program up to that level? A guy that adapts his in-game coaching to the players he has on the roster?

Maybe I’m wrong and he will crash and burn. But I’d like to give him a chance because winners usually win at every level. He won 30 games and the MVC in his first year with a roster put together with duct tape and paper clips. Only one guy remained from the previous season when Devries was coaching them to 2nd in the MVC.

Also, I was not sad at all that Devries is going to Indiana instead of Iowa. In 7 years as a head coach he’s made the tourney 3 times with only a first four win. And two of those appearances were with his son on the team, who should be playing at a higher level than Drake instead of dominating the MVC. That doesn’t scream star coach to me. Good coach, yes. But not something that I’m going to cry over losing. And I have a feeling Indiana may have buyers remorse within the next 5 years.

I’m out on Alan Huss lol
Ryan Odom seems like a lock for UVA based on whats been reported. And they seem like a perfect match for one another. Odom’s dad Dave was an assistant at UVA for years under Coach Terry Holland back in the 80s prior to taking over at Wake Forest with much success. So Ryan Odom basically grew up in Hoo’ville (Charlottesville for the uninitiated).

And Will Wade has already acknowledged he’s accepted the job at NC State, who have also publicly announced it. Tobacco Road is about to get much more interesting.

Huss at High Point, and Siddle at UNC Wilmington, however, both look like good bets in the next wave of up and comers. If the Drake coach, Ben McCollum doesn’t happen, Iowa should take a good look at both of those two. Somebody’s going to.
