It is only fitting that the two hottest teams in MLB meet in
the World Series this year. Toronto has 3 guys with over
100 RBI;s and 30 home runs. They also have stud David
Price on the mound. The Cubs had Rizzo (101 RBI's)
and Bryant (99 RBI's) plus Jake Arrieta on the mound.

Bottom Line: Who you got in the World Series?

Looks like all the St Louis Cardinals on HROT have
flown away. They are afraid the Cubs will win.

I'm still here. However, the Cubs are on fire right now and the Cardinals came limping into the postseason. For the Cardinals to have any chance in the series, they HAVE to win Friday and Saturday. Arrieta is a lock for game 3 win so even if they split this weekend, they're in trouble.

Horsehockey. The day St. Louis fans are afraid of the Cubs is the day they need to hand in their fan card.

Cubs fans are rightfully sticking their chest out right now...but ask Dodger fans how matching up with St. Louis has worked for them recently. Hell, ask Nationals fans how it works. They as a franchise still have not recovered from their gut-wrenching debacle a few years back.

This century, when the Redbirds have a great regular season they do not get a ring, and usually do not make the series. The rings came from wildcard qualifications. The injury to Martinez, Yadi limited (hopefully not unavailable), Lynn/Wacha struggling of late, and Holliday/Adams/Grichuk/Piscotty coming off injuries all make it unlikely this year imo. But its baseball, yaneverknow, only thing I'm sure about is the Redbirds will show up to play a hard 9.

They most assuredly do not HAVE to sweep at home to have any chance. Baseball being baseball, game 3 might be the only one they win. Most likely scenario is Cubs win both Lester games and 3, but Haren/Hammels/Hendricks just might have a gem in em.

Honestly, I've hated the Cubbies my whole life, mostly because of all the fair weather fans. But I know enough great Cub fans that I want them to win a World Series, too many have lived long lives and died without that joy. After they get one, and Cub gloating is everywhere, I'll go back to the hate.

Dodgers NL favorites to me, Kershaw and Greinke. Hoping the Astros come out of the NL, fun team.

Plus, due to a computer glitch, if the Astros earn rings they will be shipped to St. Louis. :)

This is why people HATE Cubs fans. You won your FIRST playoff game in 12 years and still talk shit to the fans of an organization that has been the poster child of how to run an MLB team. Cubs fans all come out of the woodwork when they're doing good. I bet the Ped mall was a North Face nightmare last night after the game.

GO CARDS!!!!!

I didn't know there was such a thing as fair weather Cub fans.

Happily respond to that. In April, usually lasting until the June swoon but in years they don't stink lasting longer, in Eastern Iowa Cub apparel and Cub fans are everywhere. Not only everywhere , but in your face and very vocal. Then when the fail comes, you almost never see so much as a Cub hat or hear a peep from the majority. Then that majority pays no attention to MLB other than to root against the Redbirds.

Shoot, how many abandoned the team during the last rebuild? A LOT. How many had symbolic bonfires to burn their stuff. MANY. I know when they finally get that ring you all are going to claim to be diehards, and I also know most of you will be lying.

Looking forward to it so the cognitive dissonance inhibiting the hate is gone.

As a New York Yankee fan I admire the Cubs rebuilding
project. Now, they have the NL Rookie of the Year in
Kris Bryant and the NL Cy Young Winner in Jake Arrieta.
Joe M. will probably win Manager of the Year. Then they
have Rizzo, Schwarber, Russell, Soler, Castro and Lieber.

Lute is pretty consistently on the record as a Yankee fan, so take that for what it's worth.

As a diehard, I actually agree with this. The Cubs get a lot of media attention and despite a century-plus of mostly futility are a "storied" franchise. Really, because of WGN, Harry Caray and all the losing, most casual baseball fans have no real reason to hate the Cubs. Cardinal fans do (though it's a healthier hate than Yanks-Sox), White Sox fans do and Brewers are getting there....maybe some Mets fans back from the NL East days, but most casual fans are ambivalent and then when they are good, they come out and buy into the hype and excitement of a rare run at something big.

The Cubs have a ton of die-hards for sure. I've been one of them for almost 35 years.....but when they're good, it seems everyone is a Cub fan -- and too often, it's the ones who don't stick around after the heartbreak who do most of the boasting and talking of feces with other fan bases.

I'm not a Cardinals fan but I think Cub fans should see this:

I have great respect for this. Obviously there's a lot of great Cardinal history. Over the last 15 years, the Cardinals are probably the most well-run franchise in baseball and one of the best in all of sports. They've fought through injuries, deaths of more than one player, succeeded with the defection of their best player in decades and they manage to sustain success through smart management and a solid but not elite payroll.

For the first time in my lifetime, I feel like the Cubs have management that can compete on that level, which I think is going to do great things to take this rivalry to a new level.

I would argue that not all Cards fans hate the Cubs. I certainly don't.

If you look through the year long Cubs thread, all I have espoused to Cubs fans in it is that the organization has to resist doing "Cub-like things" and they will be fine long term. Many posters in there said trade this kid, trade that kid, go for it, go for broke...Jim Hendrey would be proud of thinking like that.

And look where they are now...by NOT doing "Cub-like things"...

Of course not all Cards fans hate the Cubs. Not all Cubs fans hate the Cards. But Cards fans-Cubs is going to be materially different than Mariners fans-Cubs or Diamondbacks fans-Cubs.

I didnt realize getting investigated by the federal government qualifies you to be the best ran franchise in sports

I'm talking only in terms of consistent quality of product on the field per dollar spent. It's hard to argue with what the Cardinals have done over the last 15-ish years.

I know, I agree. Just having a little fun

Respectful.

And at this point seems appropriate to point out that the Cubs lead the all time series by >50 games. Cards got it under 50 early in the year but 6/9 put it back over I think, too depressing to check.

Most anytime in MLB postseason you think you know what is going to happen you're wrong, but wow do I expect inning after inning of tension.

As a New York Yankee fan I know that 27 World Series
Championship rings have been won by the Bronx Bombers.
My claim to fame is that I got to try on the Yankee World
Series Ring from 1996. The father of Joe Girardi let me
try it on. He lived in my neighborhood before he passed
away. Joe gave his ring to his dad and his dad had it
displayed in his living room at his home. Joe has
3 WS rings that he won as a player with the Yankees in
1996, 1998, and 1999. Joe also got one as a manager
of the Yankees in 2009.

You really seem to have a weed up your ass about the Cards. I would guess it's because your team was the worst run baseball franchise for 7 straight decades causing that.

How does that feel anyway? Knowing your team was ran by dumbshits all that time? All that time cheering for them, wasted.

Does it make you angry? Want to buzz my tower, just like your pitchers?

I wasnt alive for 80% of those decades so really has no effect on me. But I cant wait til next week after the Cubs stomp you so you can remind about how bad the cubs were in 1922.

Yes, I do want to buzz your tower. Using your logic it will be ok for you to come into my office and throw a 90mph fastball at ass though right? #Cardinalway #YadiISMVP

If 90% of Busch stadium wasn't filled with red neck racist hicks high on meth from backward a$$ rural Missouri then I might actually like the cardinals. STL is a decent small big city, but it is over run with white trash that ruins it. Couldn't stand the people when I lived there. It is a whole other culture, they think STL is the only thing on earth, never have ventured out of their city. (Yes I know I'm generalizing)

Only if you come real darn close to plunking two of my fellow employees in the head (and a successful beaning in a 3rd) because you're too inept to pitch high and tight otherwise.

I can't help it your blind hatred also blinds your common sense of understanding that each of those situations was caused by Chicago Cubs players, not a Pirate or Cardinal.

How the hell can the Cubs have fair weather fans? Anyone who cheers for them only when they win is DEAD.

The guy in the office next to me is a lot better at his job then me ( I spend a lot of time on HROT) so you should hit him #CardinalWay

You know, it's amazing with all our differences, we're both Cardinal fans. Although I got to see Bob Gibson pitch, in person. :)
--------------
I also saw Bob Gibson pitch in person, a complete game shut-out (1972). That was my 2nd Cardinal game. My first was the day before where I saw Hank Aaron hit a home run.

Am I worried about the Cardinals losing to the Cubs? Yes. I got worried about them losing no matter who they played in the post season as soon as Martinez went down (and already having lost Wainwright). They would have been the #1 & #2 starting pitchers for the playoffs. The rest of the pitching staff has done well but this makes it tough. Especially with Yadi and others not at 100%. But that is baseball. You play with the team you have available.

I think it would be a pretty cool event to see the Cubs finally grab a World Series title; but, not sure how tough it will be to hear the gloating and chest thumping that wouldn't die down shortly after the series like with other fan bases. I always root for the National League in the series and will this year no matter who the rep is; but if the Cubs win, I will be very glad that I live in Florida and not Eastern Iowa. That said, looking forward to a fun post-season. Go Cards !
