Tournaments can be tough.

Which is why before Advocare I specifically said much of the results would depend on officiating, and reminded we lost two tough games last year to Texas and Syracuse and still made a good year out of it after all.

Big game on Sunday now to another good team that has to be wondering if tournaments are all they are cracked up to be. :) The good news is we'll be better off down the road having played this kind of competition.

Tournaments and a lot of new players can add up to some disappointing losses even with 4 seniors. Getting all the new pieces to fit early in the season is hard enough playing cupcakes. But, going up against high caliber opponents can be difficult.
Like you said, though, it will only help the team in the long run.

I didn't see the ND game, but Uhl not only didn't contribute vs Dayton, he actually hurt us on the floor. What's up with him? Was hoping, and still am, to see a big step forward this year.

Uhl just seemed lackadaisical but should be better as the year goes. What is surprising is that Gesell and Clemmons try too SG instead of PG and they are seniors. Early tourney crews are bad and at least contributed to the Dayton's loss. It's early and IA generally does better as the season progresses. ND game was another learning process, shot too much from the outside and was cold. If IA can at least make a 40% clip, they could have also won the ND game. If IA can steal a game win from ISU or MSU for redemption, I would be happy, as well as a March Madness entry.

Our bench is so inexperienced, it might be time for coach to move 1 or 2 of our seniors to the 2 team....Jok going 3 for 15 didn't help either. We'll see how the season goes, but it might be time for coach to shake up his coaching staff after the season is over. Something is missing that Iowa has not been able to close out close games and he has to work with what he can get as far as talent. It's extremely disappointing that time after time we come up short in games that are there for the taking.

Strong defense & rebounding are key. Half court and transition defense with no second helpings for the other team and plenty of seconds for Iowa. The last two games the hawks ran out of gas after climbing out of too big of hole. The good news is when the bench settles in and contributes more team defense the games should be not get away from Iowa like this.
