Indiana

Wouldn't surprise me if they beat OSU as long as they don't turn the ball over.
Yeah, totally agree with you - To win, Indiana will have to play a perfect game in the Horseshoe. I believe it was on the Indiana board that OSU was a 11 point favorite as of yesterday. I realize that many are pumped up for Indiana but I would take OSU and lay the points if I was betting today. The game, however, is still a few weeks out

Yes, it is just one season.

But, he brought guys with him from James Madison, not Alabama. He seems to have a system that works rather well. And it ought to be much easier to attract recruits to a B10 school in the future.
Ought too, but there are no givens, so wait a full recruiting cycle (3 to 4 years) and decide..The thing people don't account for is he put together a really nice team at JM recruiting against who for which players? Now he'll be recruiting for even better players but against even better teams going after the same guys. Kirk found after 2005 that some of those guys are great recruits but don't fit your culture. Also sometimes in going after the 4-5 star guys, if you don't land them, you end up with fall backs. He may do great and he may not. We'll see....

It's one season. Let's touch base again in say 3 or 4 years. Let's see a whole bunch of consistency and having to recruit guys not from James Madison that he know for quite a while.

Yah all that top tier talent from James Madison, so unfair.

I think Miami and probably 3 SEC teams are better than any B1G team this year.
You have a right to your opinion, but that's a rather strange one, especially the Miami part; the Hurricanes have basically been Iowa St this year. And I don't know how any SEC team (except maybe Georgia), much less 3, would have proven themselves objectively better than Oregon or Ohio St.

I'll add that Cignetti is not a one year wonder. This is not an anamoly. This is what he does, these are JMU and other transfers that he's put this team together with. He reloads once his people are in place.
They are going to be a force, if Indiana is smart they will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the country.
This is his first big paycheck, he's 61. 4.4 million isn't going to cut it. He's going to be a hot commodity.
At 61 ,he's no spring chicken. Good for him. But this run reminds me of their 20 run with Penix. Then it all went down hill. They caught lightening in a bottle with a favorable schedule. But I would not want to play em this year for sure.

C'mon, man. You don't know this.

Two very recent examples - Look at '21 Michigan St. Look at '22 TCU. Both had miracle seasons under a first year coach, looking like they had a home run hire and would be a force to be reckon with for years.

I give kudos to Cignetti and the Hoosiers, but pump the brakes a bit.

But keep in mind, it's almost impossible to compare scores like this as teams like OSU, Georgia, Bama and Oregon (this year) are substituting early in blowouts. If they don't get 2nd and 3rd stingers in games - many of them 4 and 5 stars waiting their turn - those powerhouses take a chance of losing them in the Transfer Portal.

On the other hand, upstarts like Indiana are going all out to score as many as possible - less substituting inthe game when it is decided - because they want to impress the committee and pollsters hoping they get in the Playoffs when all is said and done
THAT’S football.

He's hungry though, this is his first big money. He rebuilt first year, he reloads after that.
Guy is an amazing coach.
So sad we don't have him.
Indiana is going to be relevant as long as he is there. They better step up with 8 million a year or so, someone will poach him if not.
First year contract 4.4 million.

Every team tries to score as much as possible to look better for the committee (except Iowa until this year...) ;)

He's beating BIG teams with JM recruits, he won't have to compete against the big boys for recruits if he can beat them JM type recruits, it's more what his system requires to be effective.

Exactly what Kirk did in his early years. Still I wouldn't take one year and make a assumption its always going to work out that way either. Like I said its one year. We'll see.....

Every game, people, at least me, think that the real Indiana, the one we know and love from the past, will show up and this team will be exposed as a fraud. But instead, they destroy the next team they play. I still don't know what to think, but I wouldn't bet against them, at least not this year.
Pretty easy team to root for, at least for me.

No historic success and I like Cinderella stories. They're my adopted team from here on out...which probably jinxes them.

Indiana will lose a competitive game in Columbus, avoid the big ten champ game and finish 11-1. Playoff for the Hoosiers

If that happens - and they finish 11-1, it will be interesting to see what happens. The first 3 teams will be Oregon, OSU and PSU if PSU wins out (they should). That will be 4 teams from the B1G and what many aren't factoring in is Indiana's super soft-charmin schedule. Currently, OSU is the only ranked - top 25 team - on their entire schedule.

Indiana-14 over Michigan. Wow, have we ever seen a number that high for Indiana with Michigan? Thoughts?

I'm thinking it's not that close.
Yeah, I've watched Michigan a few times this year and man, have they dropped like a rock after 2023. Kind of reminds me of their NC and 1997 and how they disappeared for a couple of decades after that. They are just not a very consistent program - year in and out - like Alabama, OSU, Georgia, Clemson and others

That's what happens when the guy that was cheating leaves the program.

Indiana is in a good spot.

Beat Ohio State, and they can lose in the BTCG and still be in the playoff.

Lose to Ohio State, and they don't play in the BTCG, and they're still in the playoff.

*Barring something crazy, like Michigan upsetting Indiana. LOL

Oh yeah good point.

Maybe an 11-1 Indiana team does not get into the playoff.

You can bet that the Playoff committee will look hard at the weak Indiana schedule also. OSU is the only ranked team on their schedule which, of course, is not their fault.

They gotta have their one or two "Cinderella's" in there.

Yeah let's see when he has to recruit new guys into Indiana and not just bringing his own laundry with him.

Memba Scott Frost??????????????

How much does Indiana football NIL budget have??????????????????????? Money will matter big time.

Exactly what Kirk did in his early years. Still I wouldn't take one year and make a assumption its always going to work out that way either. Like I said its one year. We'll see.....
Kirk's first year he won one game, three the second year. Frost won 4 his first two years. Sanders won 3.

Cignetti going 9-0 his first year is historic. Especially at a school like Indiana. That tells me a winning season next year is VERY likely.

Lololol.. Show me where exactly I said he wouldn't have a winning season next year? Good luck hunting that up. The point being there are a few on here that act like he's going to start 9-0 every year and compete for the title. All I said was maybe wait a few years before he becomes the new King, huh.....

I do like how Cignetti was able to bring over the better talent with him from JMU ... and then he brought in other proven talent from lower-tier programs ... so that the guys would come in "hungry" and still play with a chip on their shoulders. Furthermore, they'd be wanting to come into the B1G in order to gain more exposure too ... which would allow them a bit more of a pay-off in terms of risk-reward.

They picked the right year to get their first ever ten win season. We all say they have played nobody, but they're Indiana. They were supposed to be one of the nobodies on what was looked at as a very easy Ohio State schedule.

Now we have Colorado in the playoff bracket and Boise State getting a bye.

Pretty wicked year and a lot of unexpected teams rising up. I am too lazy to look up what most had Indiana ranked wise in the Big, rather not the top 5 teams in the nation… hats off to them regardless

Well on cue they got slaughtered. Kansas beat Colorado by double digits, Ole Miss lost to Florida, and Arizona State beat BYU to take the lead in the Big 12. SMU clinched and ACC title game appearance.

Crazy year. The playoff hasn't ruined the regular season. It makes more games interesting, now we have to watch Boise vs Wyoming. A&M is losing at Auburn. Oklahoma is putting a beating on Alabama. Crazy times. In the future Iowa can put a run together if they get the right schedule and find just a pulse on offense. The B1G and SEC are going to get three teams in a piece.

Almost correct. SEC gets two teams and their AUTOMATIC entry ALABAMA😓

Yeah, I thought losing two games to five loss teams with one being a terrible three touchdown loss would doom them. But I guess beating a mediocre Auburn gets them in.

Last year it was because FSU lost their QB. This year I guess Miami gets left out because ACC.

Sad thing is Ohio State gets to keep their home playoff game and if they win to get to Oregon, both teams will have played the same amount of games. Ohio State losing to a below average Michigan got them a bye this week.

Alabama will get a bye as well. Different format, same favorable treatment for the darlings.
