I don't remember so many special team trick plays in a single season, much less back to back games.

I guess Gersonde will need to start practicing the fake punt plays....does Brian call those plays?

Wonder if this is an impact by that veteran NFL assistant coach we added late? He's into studying opponents and data looking for opportunities. There was an article about his background and it's extensive.

I wonder why his data and experience don't tell him to make sure his linemen stand up and block on fgs.

Like is the case at other positions, it's a combination of both good coaching and good player skills. I'm hard-pressed to think of the last time Iowa ran so many trick plays in the Ferentz era. We certainly haven't seen the last of them this season.

As I posted previously, they have a fairly wide variety of trick plays in their arsenal.

I've noticed that we've also been coming after a lot more punts. We really haven't set up many returns this year. I don't mind this if our guys are good at avoiding hitting the punter, but it does make me a bit nervous.

Study data? Hell, some of us on here have been pleading for trick plays since KF took over. And guess what? They've worked. And we still haven't even used the flea flicker, the hook-and-lateral, the throwback to the QB and many others.

When the zone read play gets stuffed over and over, Iowa keeps running it. What is the fear of running a trick play? They usually work! But not if you don't run them. And they're fun...for players and fans alike. Again, this football stuff ain't nearly as complicated as some folks would like us to believe.
