The night in the clink just to see the judge so all you described can happen just seems dumb. Like I said though, from the guy at the front desk to the guy who cooks the hard boiled eggs - the monster must be fed.

I expect the afternoon, night and morning in jail will have a far greater impact than the civil and criminal costs. Hopefully he thinks twice next time.

Also, assuming the perp owns that house in the keys, he'll have no issues covering the 6k to paint the truck he damaged. About one month Airbnb rate there if he needs to.
