He will thrive under Harbaugh no doubt the kid fell in love with Ann Arbor. Michigan will use him for one year and move on to our 4 & 5* recruits.

Tough loss for the Hawks. I'm looking at 6 wins for Iowa this year. 7 if they catch a few breaks

Nice of Meechegan to take our left overs. Maybe JR will lead them all the way to a crappy bowl game.

JR is gone. Good luck to him, but he isn't anywhere near the athlete or QB Beathard is. Too bad it took KF so long to figure it out. We've seen what JR could do with a strong defense and some speed at the WR spots and some excellent TEs. Many of us were not impressed. I don't care what Michigan does. I just know that I'm thrilled to have an actual athlete who can and will throw the damn ball down the field playing QB for the Hawkeyes.

Beathard will lead Iowa to a much more exciting and successful season than we saw under the previous QB, you can count on that.

What you're leaving out is Michigan will actually open up the playbook for Jake. This is an example of what JR was facing playing QB at Iowa.

1st down - run left

2nd down - run left

3rd & 7 and the OC call for a 5 yard out to the sideline

4th & 2 and punt.

Wash, Rinse and repeat

Respectfully disagree. Jake threw the ball short - either because he was conservative or possibly because the coaches instructed him to be conservative. I'm inclined to believe that he was very risk-averse and avoided throwing the ball downfield. We'll see this fall - if CJ starts checking down to the RB we'll know for sure.

False. Mr. Roboto and his constant checkdowns couldn't win 8 games last year with a better receiving corps and two NFL linemen against an easier schedule. What on earth would have produced better results - our keen coaching staff?

If CJ comes in and wins 10 -12 games I would say JR was the problem. If he comes in and has the same struggles with the offense, I would think GD is the problem. I already believe the later to be the truth anyways.

Yawn. Michigan hasn't been relevant in 10 years. Likely more of the same this year.

I put a bunch of blame in our coaching staff but let's be real about Jake for a second. IMO his biggest issue was if the first guy wasn't open he didn't have the release and arm strength to have any other chance then to throw short. Guys out run his arm. They get down hill too fast for. Good kid. Decent game manager but a bit overhyped out of high school. IMO rashad Greene made him look better than he really was.

If you don't think big-time recruits look at this sort of thing maybe college football isn't for you

Heck yes they do. Also look at playing for an NFL coach. No doubt Michigan will be back real fast. My bigger question is will kids keep coming to him in 5 years from now once the word is out about being a huge dick head of a coach. Sf wouldn't put up with it anymore. Jim better have a bunch of good assistant coaches playing good cop. I know I wouldn't want my kid belittled like that.you can be strict without being a prick. All that said. Michigan being great again is key for this conference.

I don't think Tom Brady would lead this team to 9 wins. We graduated two great interior lineman on defense, which is always tough to replace. Our LBs were terrible last year, as were the safeties. On offense, we had some big losses on the line. Smith is a nice receiver, but beyond him I don't know what to get excited about. And to top it off, special teams look to yet again be a soft spot.

I know the schedule is soft, but I don't see this team getting to seven wins regardless of the QB. I'm not a huge Beathard guy, but we'll see what he does. I think the offense will be playing from behind a lot and opposing defenses are going to tee off on him.

Really hoping I'm wrong, but I just don't see it this year...

He would not win 10 games here, we don't have the talent to play KF football. I think CJ can have more success with the ability to run and extend plays....don't know if that will translate into wins?

Means your QB will get injured in the first 2 games if he is running all over the place

Put it this way. Michigan would much rather have CJB than JR.

I am sure that Harbaugh will get more out of JR than Ferentz because he won't allow JR to check down immediately and repeatedly when he should not have. He will teach him to be more aggressive or sit him.

But make no mistake, CJB would be a great fit for Harbaugh and has many more tools than JR

Michigan got Iowa's 2nd string qb and he looks like he may start. Wasn't going to start at Iowa but will start for big blue - hmmmm. I do think coach khaki will improve the Wolverines just may not get to the Buckeyes or Spartys level before he leaves aunt arbor in 3/4 years.

I think Iowa could win 9 with CJB at the helm, what I took away from Blythe, Lomax and Ott at Media day was that everyone in IC wants to right the wrongs that caused the collapse a year ago. I think it all comes down to whether or not Ferentz wants to open up the offense. Now the chances of that happening are slim but Ferentz has surprised a little bit lately.

Iowa needs a defense, most successful years had a great defense. CJ could be great, but if we can't stop anybody we will lose.

Rudock and CJ played with the same offensive players last year, and Rudock had a better completion percentage, averaged more yards per attempt, and had a better TD/INT ratio than CJ.

Those that say CJ was obviously a better QB last year are not making that claim on the basis of on-field results.

With that said, I do think there is a reasonable basis to say that CJ was the better QB. Jake had several advantages (more experience, more 1st team reps through the season, etc.) and still CJ was very close in all of the aforementioned categories. Had CJ been the starter since last spring, then I think it is likely that CJ could have put up better numbers than Jake did. However, to say that it was obvious and only a fool would choose Jake is wrong.

What is obvious is that CJ has better physical tools than Jake does. He has a stronger arm, just as good of accuracy, and is a better runner. To some, that's all that matters. However, much more than that goes into being a good QB, and if I were a coach I know I'd prefer someone at the helm that I knew I could trust. Jake had terrific footwork, he had a strong enough arm to be effective, he was an accurate passer, and most importantly to the Iowa coaches: he knew the system much better than CJ.

We can debate whether our offensive coordinator knows what he is doing, but what I don't think is debatable is that Jake was better at executing what our offensive coaches wanted to do. If we were lined up against a certain formation in which our coaches would have wanted an audible, Jake always made the "correct" audible ("correct" according to the coaches). When a pass was called Jake would go through his progressions "correctly" (again, "correctly" according to the coaches). CJB did not make these "correct" audibles or "correct" progressions as consistently as Jake did. So even though he had a stronger arm and was more mobile, it's perfectly reasonable that our coaches stuck with Jake over CJ last year.

With all this said, I fully expect CJ to make the "correct" decisions more consistently this year now that he has more experience, and as long as he stays healthy I expect him to be a better QB than Jake this year.

Michigan is not going to be the same Michigan as the last ten years.
Harbaugh turns them around immediately. They will have a good year this year with many great ones to come. The cupboard was not bare.

No the starting qb for Michigan next year will be the transfer from Houston. Michigan doesn't have any 5 star qb recuits

Although O'Korn (Houston transfer) will get the nod next year, he will be pushed by then Redshirt Freshman Zach Gentry.

Gentry was a 4*, borderline 5* verbal to Texas that was flipped by Harbaugh. 6'7" 230 with a cannon.

Feelsgood

All Michigan can brag about is name recognition since 2006 ended. What has Michigan done since 1 trip to the Sugar Bowl and guess what you lost to Iowa that year. Michigan will almost always have the better recruiting class. That isn't breaking news. Harbaugh is a great coach I hope Michigan starts getting back to beating OSU on a more regular basis along with sparty too. But that program hasn't been the consistent power house it once was since they forced Lloyd Carr out.

But it's kind of sad when all you can brag about is getting good recruits and signing endorsement deals with Nike and nothing about what they've done on the field.

As for rudock people like to throw out game manager for qbs. Jake fits that bill pretty well.

Problem is Fetentz. Always has been.

If Jake Rudock was capable of winning 9 games anywhere on the planted it should have been last year against one of the easiest schedules in the country.

No Iowa fan is worried about losing him in the least. He probably won't even win the um job.

Noodle arm.

If you are blaming his arm and lack of "x" during a play. That is on the coaches as well as they recruited him and the coaches put him on the game. Lack of recruiting details it seems.

Kirk needs a defense because of his methodology. "Iowa" doesn't need a defense. The coach and his style require a defense.

Some may disagree, but in the college game I believe a good/great defense is more important than a good/great offense. The cliche saying that "defense wins championships" is repeated over and over, and to a large degree I think it is a misnomer because at the end of the day 7 points scored is worth just as much as 7 points prevented. However, at least in college football, it is hard to point to many teams that have great defenses that don't end up with good records, however we see a lot of teams that can put up a lot of points that still never make it to bowl games.

Indiana is a great example. Over the last three years they've averaged well over 30 points a game, yet have not made a single bowl game. Compare that to Iowa's last great season, when we were second to last in the Big 10 in scoring.

I don't know and really don't care. I'm sure it's plenty. All I know if I knew the figures I wouldn't go around to other teams boards bragging about Iowa having a larger contract over them if so.

But thanks again for proving my point earlier about all you have to brag about is stuff happening off the field.

Iowa would not be a 9 game winner with Jake at qb as long as Davis is calling
plays

I hope CJ has the guts to change plays at line when he sees the defense

There were plenty of receivers open down field. JR choose not to throw to them, for whatever reason but likely a combination of Ferentz emphasis on avoiding turnovers and his lack of ability to throw long.

When Beathard was in he threw long.

I don't think it was a different play book.

Iowa recieves $1.8 million in cash and apparel from Nike. Which ranks 7th in Big Ten. Ouch

Michigan ranks 1st with $8.2 million from Adidas. Next year Michigan will go back to Nike witht helargest deal in college sports. Feelsgood to be big boy on the block
