While Trump & (possibly if confirmed) Patel are vengeful fools, there's the argument that
A) Being pardoned helps to validate the perception by MAGA that there indeed was something significantly wrong these people did.
B) Invites lots of negative attention to said individual.
C) Most of these would-be cases would be demonstrated to be political folly and get nowhere in the courts.

You're right for sure, but I think you realize that when Joe pardons someone like Adam Kinzinger or Liz Cheney, it's not because he thinks they are criminals. It's to protect them from Trump's DoJ. I know you get that. bins and others right of him think she's just as much of a criminal as Roger Stone. They either believe that or they are choosing to force a both sides into something that anyone who thinks logically can see there isn't an actual equivalency.
Hunter might be the only crook he pardons...and it's his kid. If Patel had never threatened Hunter, I would be disappointed that Joe pardoned him. But Patel did, and I get it, as a father.
