Idiot!:
The fresh attacks President Trump aimed at Canada on Tuesday extended beyond imposing more tariffs on America’s neighbor and NATO ally, and laid out in the clearest terms yet his vision for annexing Canada and making it part of the United States.
Mr. Trump has made repeated comments about Canada becoming America’s 51st state since winning the election last November, and last month specifically told the country’s outgoing prime minister, Justin Trudeau, that he did not believe that the border treaty between the two nations was valid, The New York Times reported last week.
On Tuesday, as he announced his intention to double his planned tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, Mr. Trump publicly detailed much of his thinking.

“The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State,” Mr. Trump wrote. “This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem.”

Echoing his private comments to Mr. Trudeau in that February call, he said about the border: “The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear.’’
He also said “O Canada,” the national anthem, “will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!”
Much of the world has been seeing Mr. Trump’s fixation with annexing Canada as a joke, or merely bluster to push for concessions on trade and other forms of economic integration. It’s been regarded as the least realistic and plausible of Mr. Trump’s territorial ambitions, which also include annexing Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, and wanting to reclaim the Panama Canal.
But Canadian political leaders, and Canadians at large, have been taking Mr. Trump deadly seriously.

I'm betting he's already talked with the Pentagon about planning an invasion. That's why this whole thing chaps his ass so badly - it's the last thing he wants to do, but may be his only choice.
I called this about a year ago, but figured it would be Mexico, to reign in the Cartels like Puty went in Ukraine to get the Nazis…

I say they should do it. They would be the most populated state and garner the most EC votes. They'd have more control than California.

But seriously, doesn't the military have the obligation to refuse illegal orders. I would think that invading a friendly bordering country would fall into that category:)

Who in America thinks that we are actually going to attack Canada?

Who would have thought that Trump would effectively abandon Ukraine?
Who would have thought that Trump would effectively tell NATO to get lost?
Who would have thought that ANY sitting president would talk publicly about annexing Greenland and Canada?

And lastly, how would a person such as Trump - noted stable personality that he is - react to a country which he views as weak sauce if they were to publicly tell him to go f*** himself like they are?

Do NOT rule out anything that one might believe the Asshole In Chief isn't capable of.

I see CANADA telling THUMP ,screw you, we will find other trading partners we can trust. and then contact them.

Unfortunately, it's not easy for Canada to replace having the world's largest economy within convenient driving (and shipping) distance next door. It would take years to reconfigure their businesses around using ports and oceanic shipping on a scale that would replace what they can just use trucks and trains for today.

Trump knows Canada can't resist for long without Great Depression-tier suffering and he is shameless about exploiting their vulnerability.
